Description

Mask Keeper class the Masks of emotions.

If you killed the three Masks of Emotion in the side areas, this will do absolutely nothing. If you haven’t, it will buff the boss, debuff the party and potentially heal the boss over the course of the fight.

Mask Keeper attacks the Expedition.

This is a four-hit combo of dark damage. The rhythm normal > normal > slow > normal. The tricky part is, without doubt, the third hit.

Mask Keeper attacks like a storm.

This is a four-hit combo on one character that will no doubt trip you up due to its second attack being much faster than the rest. Its pattern is normal > fast > normal > normal.

Mask Keeper performs a swing combo.

This is a three-hit combo similar to the last attack where it has a deceptively fast second strike. Its rhythm of attack is normal > fast > normal.

Mask Keeper performs a chaotic combo.

Now that we have three and four-hit combos, we may as well up the ante with an eight-hit combo. Again, the second attack is much quicker than the rest, but there are a handful of slow attacks thrown in as well. The pattern is normal > fast > normal > normal > slow > normal > fast > slow.

Mask Keeper is surrounded by a defensive aura.

This will buff the Mask Keeper and will give him a shield every time he lands a blow on an Expeditioner. Thankfully, this is capped out at 9 shields.

Mask Keeper vehemently attacks the Expedition.

Similar to the first attack of the fight, the Mask Keeper will hit the entire party with dark damage, but instead of a four-hit combo, it’s now a six and has various speeds throughout. The pattern is normal > normal > slow > normal > slow > normal.

Mask Keeper performs a long swing combo.

Similar to the regular swing combo, this has been enhanced to six hits with a pattern of normal > fast > normal > normal > fast > normal.

Mask Keeper sets Fire to his sword.

The deadliest attack in his arsenal, this is a four-hit combo that starts off fast and ends with a Gradient attack. The pattern is normal > fast > fast > normal Gradient.

Mask Keeper gains Powerful, Shell and Speed.

On his last legs, the Mask Keeper will buff himself with these three enhancements.

Strategy

Clair-MaskKeeper-06

Provided you’ve already killed the three Masks of Emotions prior to this fight, it will make things a lot easier. Regardless, this fight is essentially broken up into two different phases. The first is getting used to the various combo attacks the Mask Keeper has, while the second is mastering it otherwise you’ll be punished harshly. The only attack that transitions to the second phase is the chaotic combo, though, with the rest getting additional attacks. Regardless, the first phase is fairly straightforward, just learning the patterns.

Around halfway through the fight, the Mask Keeper will cast a defensive aura around himself. When he does this, all of his attacks will become buffed. The standard swing and regular combos we’ve become so used to up until now will have added hits at various speeds. This will only help grow his shield, but also give you the opportunity to earn some AP in the process. When the Mask Keeper sets fire to his sword, this can be a tricky attack to parry at first, but one of the easier ones once you’ve gotten the hang of it because the second and third attacks are fast, and the Gradient attack gives quite a bit of leeway.
