Hollow Knight: Silksong gets a 2025 release date for Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first official timeline for the long-awaited sequel.

Over the course of the Knight’s journey, players met characters that had a lasting impact, so before Silksong releases, here are 10 characters that should come back for Hollowknight: Silksong.

Cornifer

The world of Hollow Knight

is dark and moody, but one of the few moments of levity as you search the dead world is the mumbling of the happy cartographer Cornifer.

This early ally helps The Knight add pages to his map, a necessity for a game with so much backtracking. What was one of the first moments of life and happiness for the player in Hollow Knight would make a great addition to the next game, and we hope Cornifer will make a comeback in the next game for a similar purpose.

Nosk

A Horrifying Memory

Nosk Boss Hollow Knight battle the knight underneath

While all the boss battles in Hollow Knight are memorable, Nosk specifically ranks among the most horrific, scary, and relentless enemies the Knight faced. After getting through the already unforgiving depths, this enemy was well-suited as a final hurdle.

Emitting strange noises, moving wildly around the map, and having attacks that mutate and come out of nowhere made for a great change of pace. For this horrifying boss to make a return would be rewarding for new players and old perhaps with some new mutations to witness.

Nailsmiths

Lore and Aura-Farming

Nailsmith Hollow Knight dialogue wth the knight

One of the ways to boost the Knight’s power was to meet up with some of the masters of their weapon, the nail. Getting upgrades for these weapons was key to making some of the battles winnable.

The two Nailsmiths in Hollow Knight were a cool feature in the game, allowing for progression and a sense that the weapon the Knight used had a history to learn. They had a mystique about them and having them appear once again to aid in Hornet’s quest could give them more time to flush out their characters.

8

Dung Defender

A Poopy Pal

Dung Defender Boss Hollow Knight Battle mid dung attack

One of the great strengths of Hollow Knight was its ability to create memorable characters with only a few bits of sound, physicality, and dialogue and Dung Defender was a boss fight that felt more like a friendly competition than a battle to the death.

The character was fleshed out in the DLC as an important soldier for the king, so having him return in the sequel as an ally with some development would make the fan base very happy.

7

Iselda

The True Queen of Hollownest

Iselda Hollow Knight Shopkeeper dialogue in shop with The Knight

Iselda is a welcome presence in the world of Hollow Knight as one character that is just sort of over this whole ‘make a shell to contain a deadly plague for millenia’ thing. Not tragically hurt, or overly-friendly, but a bored shopkeeper worrying about her husband along with some light lore indicating she was a capable warrior at one time.

Including Iselda in the sequel game with the chance to battle her and her husband at the same time would be a cool addition to the game.

6

Salubra

At Least Someone Likes This Place

Saliba Hollow Knight Charm salesperson in shop talking with The Knight

Blissfully unaware of the dark events surrounding her store, Salubra was another welcome presence inside the world of Hollow Knight. The charms she offered for sale gave a good variety of power-ups the Knight didn’t need to go cave diving to find.

While she has posted up quite firmly in her shop, her inclusion in the next game, perhaps still not knowing about the horrors that happened to her kingdom, would be a fun addition. Finding out more about her backstory, and perhaps some connection she may have with Hornet would be interesting as well.

5

The Hollow Knight

The Legend Itself

Hollow Knight Boss The Hollow Knight intro scream

One of the keys to unlocking the mystery of Hollow Knight in the original game is the vessel containing the infection, and with the story proposed for Silksong, it may be impossible for the hollow/pure vessel to make a reappearance in Silksong.

However, because of Hornet’s own personal experience with the vessel, it would be a very cool addition to have some type of battle within Hornet’s mind with it or if a separate kingdom had imitated Hollownest’s experiments, and created a vessel of their own.

4

Grub Father/Mother

Side Quest Horror

Grub Father Hollow Knight with all the grubs collected before eating them

One of the side quests in Hollow Knight was to collect the cute grubs found trapped in jars all around the kingdom. When freed, they would return to a single character known as the Grub Father who rewarded the player for each of his children the player found. Completionists would know the horror of coming back to find that Grub Father had digested all of his children, hinting that this is some part of the lifecycle of the species.

It would feel less horrifying to discover in the second game that these children somehow combined with the Grub Father to become an all-new being (Grub Mother?!) rather than the horrifying implications that were caused by the end of the first game and create a new side quest for that character.

3

Soul Master

A Memorable Foe

Soul Master Hollow Knight boss battle The Knight hitting Soul Master with nail

The Soul Master is an early noob-stomper in the first Hollow Knight game. The encounter marked a shift in the gameplay from simply bashing a boss to defeat to requiring more strategy, with the recent ability to dodge with the dash added to Hollow Knight’s arsenal.

Because of how memorable this battle became, the inclusion of the Soul Master in the second game would be rewarding for players who are still angry at the fight and really want to beat him up one more time.

2

The Knight

He’s Just So Cute!

The iconic protagonist of the first game, the Knight left a huge impression on Hornet and has become a mascot for the franchise. To not include an appearance by the Knight themselves or some kind of ode to the character in the next game, would be a mistake.

Based on the ending players got for the first game, it would make sense for them not to appear, but hopefully the game’s producers can find a way to bring the cute powerhouse back.
