Nacon wins bid to publish future WRC games starting 2027

The official World Rally Championship gaming brand is set to return to a familiar home, with French publisher Nacon announcing it will publish new WRC games over a six-year timespan. This news follows the startling revelation last month that Codemasters would discontinue development support for EA Sports WRC and cease work on any future rally racing simulators, ending its WRC partnership after just one game.

Today, the WRC series promoter confirmed that the license will return to Nacon in 2027. This new agreement grants Nacon exclusive rights to develop and publish official WRC games and run esports competitions on PC and consoles for six seasons, spanning 2027 through to 2032. Nacon’s announcement promises an all-new WRC game series, which will be a “complete reboot of the franchise”. The new games will feature official teams, vehicles, rallies, drivers, and sponsors, as we’ve come to expect from the official WRC games.

While not explicitly stated, development for this new WRC series will most likely pass to KT Racing. This studio previously handled the official WRC game series for Nacon from 2015 through to 2022’s WRC Generations, before Codemasters acquired the license.

For rally enthusiasts, this announcement unfortunately means there won’t be a new official WRC game until 2027 at the absolute earliest. The current title, EA Sports WRC, which launched in November 2023, will have to hold fans over until Nacon’s new series begins.
