Return to Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom has finally revealed the ninth mainline entry in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil Requiem.
The Resident Evil franchise is ready to serve up some horror with Resident Evil Requiem. Review: Resident Evil 4 Remake
Hitting all the right notes in being something for both newcomers and long-running fans alike, Resident Evil 4 Remake is a triumph.
Back to where it all began…
Resident Evil Requiem follows FBI agent Grace Ashcroft as she’s dispatched to investigate the mysterious deaths of several individuals at the same hotel her mother died 8 years prior. The journey will eventually take her to the ruins of Raccoon City, home of the T-virus outbreak. It is unknown if any franchise mainstays like Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, or Chris Redfield will make an appearance.
While Capcom didn’t provide too many details about the story and very little about the gameplay, they did drop a few additional details. As with all entries since Resident Evil VII, Requiem will be powered by the RE Engine to deliver “spine-chilling realism like never before, with complex character details like lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and even high-fidelity sweat droplets.” According to the studio, players can expect the psychological horror and pulse-pounding action the franchise has come to be known for. Can’t wait till 2026? Capcom confirmed that players can go hands-on with the game at Gamescom 2025.
A change in direction
Resident Evil Requiem marks a drastic change in direction for the Resident Evil franchise. Since 2017s Resident Evil VII, new entries in the franchise have been focused on Ethan Winters and his family, culminating in Resident Evil Village’s Shadow of Rose DLC, which appeared to position Rose Winters as the next potential protagonist. Outside those Winters’ focused games, Capcom has also released three remakes (Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4) with each altering story details to fit into the ongoing narrative thread. Resident Evil Requiem appears to be taking the franchise in another direction by positioning Grace Ashcroft as the protagonist. Whether we’ll see legacy characters show up remains a mystery.
Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
