Nintendo reveals Splatoon Raiders for the Switch 2
Nintendo has officially unveiled Splatoon Raiders, the first-ever spin-off title in the popular Splatoon franchise, confirmed as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.
Splatoon Raiders will transport players to the enigmatic “Spirhalite Islands”, where they will assume the role of a mechanic. While the teaser offered a glimpse of gameplay, a specific release date for Splatoon Raiders was not provided. In an accompanying blog post, Nintendo stated that “in the role of a mechanic, players will go on an adventure in the mysterious Spirhalite Islands alongside the splat-tacular Deep Cut trio”, promising more details on the game in the future.
Meanwhile, Splatoon 3 is slated to receive a free update, Version 10.0.0, on June 12th. This update will be available for the original Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2. For Switch 2 users, the update will bring noticeable graphical and performance enhancements in specific areas, including Splatsville and the Grand Festival Grounds. Moreover, Nintendo has confirmed that Splatoon 3 will support cross-play functionality between the two Switch console generations.
Beyond performance improvements for the Switch 2, the Version 10.0.0 update for Splatoon 3 will introduce the “Splatlands collection”, an extensive addition featuring 30 new weapon kits from the Barazushi and Emberz brands. These new weapons will feature new designs, complete with various sub and special weaponry. The update will also reintroduce the beloved Urchin Underpass area, a fan-favourite map from the original Wii U version of the game. Further enhancements include increasing all weapon freshness caps, new in-game badges, a new weapon stat, and a corresponding matchmaking mechanism designed to pair players of comparable abilities.
