Konami’s upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is designed to be an extremely faithful remake of its PS2 original, so much so it retains the original animations and gated loading screens of the older title with a fresh coat of Unreal Engine 5 paint.
However, Konami has secretly cooked up a brand-new Metal Gear Solid multiplayer mode for the remake that is unlike anything ever seen before in the series. Dubbed Fox Hunt, this isn’t simply a redo of the classic Metal Gear Online, but something new entirely.
Announced during the ongoing Konami Press Start conference, Fox Hunt is an all-new multiplayer experience that will be playable in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Helmed by new director Yu Sahara, the “completely original” mode will be a new take on PvP MGS for newcomers and longtime fans alike.
Announced as a “one more thing” for the new game, Sahara explained that the new multiplayer mode “shares the world of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater”, but offers gameplay that is “completely different”.
Konami explained that the new mode aims to bring MGS into a modern multiplayer setting, stating that it took a “lot of careful consideration” to bring a new experience to the series. The new mode is a form of “hide and go seek” that uses advanced camoflague that’s unique to Metal Gear.
Essentially, the new multiplayer mode apepars to be a form of Prop Hunt with players taking on the advanced camoflague that turns them into piles of realistic rocks, foliage and more depending on where they are in the map.
More details will be revealed for the new multiplayer mode closer to release. At the time of writing, MGS Delta: Snake Eater is scheduled to release on August 28, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. No Nintendo Switch 2 port has been announced.
