How Do You Feel About The Last of Us Part 2, 5 Years Later?

Having first released on the 19th June 2020, The Last of Us Part 2 is officially five years old — but does it remain one of the most divisive releases in PlayStation history?
Originally an incredibly high profile PS4 exclusive, the expectations surrounding Naughty Dog’s big budget sequel were colossal. It was, after all, following up on what many believe to be one of the greatest games of all time in The Last of Us.
Part 2 was not the kind of safe-leaning sequel that some fans clearly wanted it do be. Far from it, in fact, as the developer went out of its way to create a sobering, often deeply uncomfortable experience designed to shock its audience.
At the time, Part 2 divided opinion like very few games ever have. While the title was met with hugely positive reviews from critics, it sparked a serious backlash amongst some players who didn’t appreciate the game’s narrative direction.
Of course, not everyone felt the same way; plenty of people saw Part 2 as a bold and daring sequel that challenged its audience on an emotional level.
Over the years, it feels like the more extreme opinions have evened out, with The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered being more warmly received on PS5 — at least in a general sense.
