Review: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X
There’s a lot to offer to get new players involved in Rainbow Six Siege X, but it isn’t like the old players went anywhere.
With that said, it’s also easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of this new addition, more so if you’re new or if this is your first return to the game after years. These tips should help all types of playersbecome familiar with Rainbow Six Siege X.

Get Your Training In
It Never Hurts to Learn the Basics
Despite the nostalgia vets feel when booting up Rainbow Six Siege, it is a rather old game. For those of us who haven’t stuck to it, Siege X has enough refreshers to help you adapt. But beginners to the now free-to-play game should fully take advantage of the Training modes as well.
Of course, you’ve got your gun range and tutorials, but the real gem here is the Field Training portion. It puts you in a mock-up match against AI enemies. This is your chance to not only test out which operators you feel comfortable with, but work on utilizing different skills and approaches. It’s the perfect way to learn how to set up defense and attack before ever hopping into a real match, and that kind of exposure is priceless.

Focus on Audio Cues
Being a Bad Listener is a Death Sentence
Sound is key in Siege X, especially audio cues. If you’re running around and you hear a spattering of footsteps from the other team, that means there’s a good chance they can also hear you. The best tip to offer players is to understand directional cues.
Are those muted gunshots from the left or right? Above or below? Sprinting is always a dead giveaway, but you also make a good deal of noise while rappelling. This is why being a good listener is key. If you’re close to a barricade and hear the enemy trying to rappel, it’s a good way to set up a sneaky surprise attack before they get the drop on you. Those types of sounds are even clearer if you break the glass while leaving the barricade.

Play the Objectives
It’s Not Always About the Kills
We know how exciting it is when you nail kill after kill. Many matches end by simply eliminating every enemy, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore the objectives. A good team can stay alive and turn the tide of the match by just doing everything you’re supposed to do rather than hunt down other players.

From mastering squad communication to leveraging artillery like a pro, these tips will make you deadlier, smarter, and indispensable to your team.
This is where teamwork comes into play. As long as everyone is on the same page, you can work to end a match even faster whether defusing the bomb or just capturing a sector. This is the best tip for Siege X when it comes to modes like Dual Front (which we’ll address more later on) as capturing more sectors than your opponent is the way to win.
3
Work on Team Coordination
No One Operates Alone
Without teamwork, there’s no winning in Siege X. Every operator has their role to play, so play your role accordingly, but also keep watch on your teammates. Is someone setting up a flank? See if there’s anything you can do to help. Or maybe a teammateneeds backup when charging in?
This is also where communication comes into play. Not everyone likes talking on comms, which is understandable. Thankfully, you can use the new Communication Wheel to get the basics out of the way. It has several ping options like Breach, Area Clear, Help and Danger. They’re simple-yet-effective ways to have non-verbal comms with your team so everyone is still working together.
2
Using the Environment
Everything Can be a Weapon
A great tip for beginners in Rainbow Six Siege X is that the environment is your friend. You can use various items to help setup great kills or traps. For instance, strike a fire extinguisher to trigger it and kill their vision. It’s the perfect opportunity to get into a better position, get out of danger or line them up for easy kills. This will take both good aim and timing as to not waste the opportunity.
But if you want to effectively use the environment, you need to learn the map layouts. It doesn’t matter which mode you’re playing in. Understanding where everything is will be vital to creating opportunities with the environmental effects.
1
Embrace Dual Front Mode
The Ultimate Test of Skill
To focus more on the newest mode added with Rainbow Six Siege X, Dual Front is the best thing to play not just for fun, but to improve your skills. This 6v6 format is not just a welcoming face lift to the old game, but it forces you to learn how to adapt. You’re fighting against the enemy team for control of different territories, but this time, you’re defending and attacking all at once.
Best of all: respawns are unlimited. So, feel free to rush head-first into the match to get a feel of both the enemy and the game overall. You can even switch around the operators you choose, adapting to the changing circumstances in the game on the fly. By the time you’ve gone through a few of these matches, you should have a better grip on your favorite operators, how to use them and how to find success no matter which side of the field you’re playing on.
