It’s now easier to get Mesa 25.1 on the latest Ubuntu 25.04

One of the best ways for a while now has been the PPAs from kisak, like the kisak-mesa fresh PPA. However, until recently it was not supported on the latest Ubuntu distros due to storage limits on PPAs.
Recently, kisak retired support for older Ubuntu versions like Bionic (18.04), Focal (20.04) and Jammy (22.04). So now if you’re on a more recent version like Ubuntu 25.04 you can finally use it and get Mesa 25.1. Specifically, it has the very latest bug-fix release of Mesa 25.1.5.
This is going to be needed too, because the latest DXVK update actually now recommends Mesa 25.1. So soon a Proton update that pulls in that DXVK version will run better with it.
I do suggest you read the PPA page first as it notes Oracular (24.10) and Plucky (25.04) have not been tested locally by kisak. Using it on an Ubuntu distro is easy by running these terminal commands below:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa
And then:
sudo apt update
I’ve tested it myself this morning using this PPA on Kubuntu 25.04 running around in Dune: Awakening and it’s all looking good.
