I’ve been with my partner for 8 years, and these are our favorite couples games that I’d recommend for your next date night
Finding the best couple games to play can be deceptively tricky. This is doubly accurate if you are in a relationship like mine, where the two of you have very different tastes in games generally as well. While my partner and I have been together for eight years now, he is a collector of the best FPS games and horror titles, while I’m an RPG and cozy gamer.
Hunting for the best co-op games is a challenge, but there are some universally great titles out there that managed to make both of us happy. So, if you are like me and are looking for a game to play on date night that transcends genre preferences, then you’ve come to the right place. After years and thousands of hours playing together, here are my favorite games that I’d recommend to anyone on their date night.
We have some shout-outs to the hottest new games of 2025 as well as some timeless classics. So grab your significant other and get ready to load up those consoles and PCs, it’s time to buckle in for some quality couple’s bonding time.
Peak
Developer: Team PEAK
Platforms: PC
I’m terrible at platformers, so on paper, the new indie game Peak should be my worst nightmare. However, my partner and I were laughing by the end of our first attempt at trying to scale a cartoony mountain. You both play as scouts who end up stranded on an island and must make their way to the top of various different environment zones in order to get back home. But maps change daily, each section has its own challenges to face, and it’s very easy to fall to your doom.
The art style of the game keeps things lighthearted, though, and so does the hilarity that comes with proximity chat as you watch your significant other’s screams get softer as they fall off a ledge. And (speaking from personal experience) there’s something oddly romantic about seeing your partner carry your dead body to a campfire as you fly about as a ghost waiting to be resurrected. All in all, this is our current obsession and one I’d recommend for partners looking for a good giggle.
Portal 2
Developer: Valve
Platforms: PC, Switch, PS3, Xbox 360
Portal 2 was the first game that my boyfriend and I played together, and it’s an experience that really pushed us to find more co-operative titles. You play as two robots in a facility that has been abandoned after the events of the first game. You’ll need to work together to solve puzzles and platform your way to safety, all while GLaDOS makes snide comments from the side (she truly deserved her potato fate).
Portal 2 is just a great game in general, but playing it with a partner really takes it up a notch. The feeling of accomplishment you get through working together to get to the end of the story is uber satisfying. It also helps that roles are very balanced, so each player is equally important in terms of progressing. I love Portal 2 and personally can’t recommend it enough. Sea of Thieves

Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One
Sea of Thieves is an interesting couples game for sure, but hear me out, doing the Tall Tales with your partner is an absolute blast. Setting sail together on the high seas to complete those story-driven quests is so much fun to experience together. Once you get past all the other players trying to kill you or steal your loot (all bless that Safer Seas mods when you feel yourself getting tilted), there’s a meditative joy in navigating a ship towards some ghost pirates or skeletons.
It also helps that Sea of Thieves has some of the best-looking water in any video game (as we also pointed out in our Sea of Thieves review), helping build the vacation vibe on any date night. There is enough excitement in this game, but as a two-player experience, Tall Tales really shine, and it’s easy to feel like two partners in crime while loading this one up.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Developer: Next Level Games
Platforms: Switch
In terms of the best two-player Switch games, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a sleeper hit that my partner and I absolutely loved. The premise is simple: ghosts have kidnapped Luigi’s pals, and it’s up to him to navigate the haunted hotel and save the day. The problem is that Luigi is a bit of a scaredy cat, so thank goodness there is a great multiplayer option available to him.
One of you plays as regular old Luigi, the other takes on the role of the very green “Gooigi” as you vacuum suck up ghosts and solve area puzzles to progress in the story. Gooigi’s powers are needed to get to certain areas, so really, this is a pair that can’t be separated. As a couple game, it’s cute, long enough to keep you entertained for a day, and offers both combat, puzzle, and exploration mechanics to keep things interesting.
Stardew Valley
Developer: ConcernedApe
Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One
Instead of romancing one of the many villagers in Pelican Town, have you ever decided to put your real-life relationship to the test and run a virtual farm together? Stardew Valley sees you moving to the countryside after you inherit a farm from your grandad. You’ll have to grow crops, mine, fish, gather, and earn money in order to thrive. There’s a lot to do in Stardew, so having an extra set of hands to help out is always a bonus. That also means that if you’re partner is more combat-oriented while you are a cozy gamer, sending them off to fight monsters in the mines while you tend the fields is a great solution for both your problems.
In short, you both get to experience your favorite parts of the game more together if you choose to play Stardew as a couple. While there are settings that let each player have separate money, for a true co-op experience, keeping your profits shared is way more fun, as every upgrade and purchase feels like a joint milestone. If you want to be extra cute, you can also get married to each other in-game.. I mean, romancing an NPC in a shared save file would be kind of rude, wouldn’t it?
Split Fiction
Developer: Hazelight Studios
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Switch 2
Although I could have easily put any one of Hazelight Studios’ games on this list (especially It Takes Two), Split Fiction is my personal favorite pick and is hands down the best co-op game of 2025 currently out right now. You play as the fantasy and sci-fi authors Zoe and Mio as they get trapped in each other’s stories when a machine used to extract their ideas has a malfunction. Play through the two’s stories as you work to break the machine and escape, and experience levels where you’ll shoot robots, fly dragons, turn into cute pigs, and more.
Previous Hazelight games have felt a bit slow in the past, with some levels overstaying their welcome. However, Split Fiction never feels stagnant and will have you and your partner hooked on a range of different gameplay mechanics as you play through the fantasy and sci-fi sections, as well as complete quick side stories.
