Giant BT Weakness in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Giant BT Weakness in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

One of the first major bosses you will encounter in Death Stranding takes the form of a giant floating skull glistening with the goopy black tar all the other BTs are associated with. This is part of the main mission, specifically order No. 6, testing Sam’s capabilities relatively early on in the story. While he’s more than used to it during the events of the first game, in Death Stranding 2, he has only been up against smaller BTs, along with violent humans.

What is the Giant BT’s Weakness?

Death Stranding 2 Giant BT Blood Grenade Lob

While you can use your projectile weapons to take down the Giant BT, which you likely will still do, the Giant BT’s major weakness is Blood Grenades, or at least they are at this stage of the game. Blood Grenades will not only do a large amount of damage to the giant floating skull, but it will disorient it, as well, giving you an opportunity to deal damage through other means. It will also interrupt various attacks.

Finding Blood Grenades

Blood Grenades can be crafted at the station just before the boss fight, so be sure to bring as many as you can hold. These will cost 40 Chiral Crystals and 25 Resin at level 1, with the upgraded versions costing a bit more.

With that said, even when you run out of Blood Grenades, which you will, scour the battlefield. There will be various other players who have fought this boss dropping equipment for you, not too dissimilar to Dark Souls or Elden Ring Nightreign. Some of them don’t possess Blood Grenades, but all you have to do is look for others as it’s one piece of equipment that’s almost required to come into this battle with, so there’s still a high chance of someone having them on their person.

Strategy

As you might expect, your main goal is to utilize the Blood Grenades. Similar to other small BTs, these grenades will do a significant amount of damage to the boss, along with stagger it out of specific attacks, opening up various opportunities.

As for the attacks themselves, each has a different way of handling them. For the tentacle attack, you will need to sprint to the left or right. If you try to move forward or back, you will get hit. Even moving side to side, there’s a decent chance you’ll get clipped.

When the giant BT begins to suck the tar in front of him, be sure you’re on elevated ground. If you are in the tar, the best thing you can do is ride the wave until you’re close to the boss’ mouth and then toss a Blood Grenade in.

When the boss sinks into the tar, it will reemerge somewhere at a distance. It will have scooped up a bunch of cars and various debris on the field and hurl it towards Sam. This can be a bit tricky to avoid because of the amount of debris that is coming towards you, but the best thing you can do is keep an eye on the sky and sprint as fast as you can to a side.

When the BT comes up to you, it will split open its head vertically, revealing its orange weakspot. He will also throw up tar in your direction, dealing a decent amount of damage. Despite this damage, this is an excellent damage opportunity. Either break out a weapon or throw a Blood Grenade at its weakspot to deal a good amount of damage.

After a certain amount of damage, the BT will drop to the side of his head and be open for massive punishment. Run up to it and unload the seemingly infinite amount of ammo you have on your person, or throw more Blood Grenades at it, although those should be reserved for stunning it.
