PS5 Now a Priority for Dev Behind Hit Xbox Exclusives, Fans Upset

The developer behind popular Xbox exclusives Ori has said that his next game might only release on the PS5. No Rest for the Wicked — the third game by award-winning Moon Studios — is currently in early access on PC.
Dev behind hit Xbox exclusives Ori says prioritizng PS5 makes more business sense
Moon Studios founder Thomas Mahler said that he might also consider a Nintendo Switch 2 release for No Rest for the Wicked, but might skip Xbox platforms altogether “given current market conditions.” However, he’s willing to discuss things with Microsoft to “see what makes sense for Xbox.”
When asked to clarify the matter further, Mahler wrote on X that he can’t officially confirm anything yet, and as much as Moon Studios wants to support all consoles, “just looking at the numbers, PS5 makes the most sense at the moment.” “Ultimately we’ll ship on all platforms, but likely not at the same time!” Mahler added.
Mahler’s response understandably didn’t go down well with Xbox fans.
Well, this makes no sense.
Xbox console far out weight switch 2 in sales and numbers.
You’re limiting your own reach on purpose. Self sabotage.
Oh well, never mind. I’m sure the studio will be OK, and I’m sure it will sell well enough on ps5 to keep the studio afloat. “Cough…— Craig. (@confusedbrit001) July 22, 2025
i bought a One S in 2018 just for Ori 1, bought the Collector’s Edition of Ori and the Will of the Wisps while the game was also on GamePass day 1 but didn’t care ’cause I wanted to support Moon Studios as much as I could
hope you do not go with this. i would be so disappointed— Sean Michael? (@DoctorTM5) July 21, 2025
Some even accused Mahler of trying to create controversy to increase awarenes of No Rest for the Wicked.
Beyond the tinfoil theories, Mahler does have a point. Current Xbox hardware is in the doldrums and considering No Rest for the Wicked is self-published, Moon Studios has to prioritize targeting platforms that make more financial sense.
