Lu Bingzhang Boss Guide in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

As you push forward through the trials and challenges in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you’ll encounter bosses that proceed to become more and more intense as you continue the journey. Lu Bingzhang is a boss you’ll run into fairly early in the game, but this boss assumes you’ve gotten the hang of dodging and have found a rhythm with your preferred weapons. While he is certainly not the most difficult boss found in the game, he does present an opportunity to learn and adapt to the mechanics available in the game.

Fighting Lu Bingzhang
While this is only a single phase in the fight, you need to be careful.
Residing at the top of Shu Sanctum, this boss will be waiting for any unsuspecting players and unleashing new types of moves you may not have seen at this point in the game. This won’t be a tough boss, like most available bosses in the game, and he doesn’t have a phase 2. Instead, you will be dealing with a variety of spells and melee attacks hurled at you.
If you’re comfortable performing perfect dodges and can break his stance, this fight will go fairly smoothly on your end. Your preferred weapon of choice will do just fine for this fight, but there are some things to consider when using some of the slower weapons. Charged heavy attack windup times vary for each weapon, and due to some of the tight windows of opportunity available during the fight, you will want to adapt accordingly.
Types of aerial attacks Lu Bingzhang uses.
Right away, Lu Bingzhang can perform several different types of attacks when you walk into his arena. One of the main starting attacks will be a leap into the air, where he will either slam the ground you are standing on or cast a spell that is followed by the ground slam attack. Both of these attacks are telegraphed accordingly and are easy to manage.
When Lu Bingzhang goes to slam the ground, his weapon will let out a brief purple glow. This is your cue to dodge and possibly get a heavy counterattack to break his stance. If he does the spell-casting variant, the spell will let out a red glow to show you when to dodge, which is followed up by the same ground slam described. Both of these will leave him briefly vulnerable to having his stance broken, which you need to take advantage of.
After a certain threshold of damage done to the boss, you will also encounter a new move. While this could be considered a phase 2 for the boss, it doesn’t do much to transform the fight in any way for the most part. Lu Bingzhang will once again leap into the air, and ethereal heads will chase you. The tracking on them isn’t the greatest, and if you can dodge through them head-on, you can get to safety and be close to the boss to deal stance damage.
Be wary of the area of effect puddles used in the fight.
With the ground slam comes another obstacle to keep track of, though: Corruption Puddles. These will stay on the ground briefly after the boss hits the ground with the head of his staff, and will deal damage over time if you aren’t careful and stay on top of them for too long. This is also paired with another attack of his, but instead of a leap into the air, he will slam the end of his staff into the ground repeatedly. This attack is going to land where you will be standing, as well as hit you with a small area of effect if you are too close. The timing will be synced with his staff hitting the ground, and it is easy enough to avoid the initial hits. You do need to keep track of the corruption puddles left in their stead, though, or you will end up taking some unnecessary damage from the boss.
Lu Bingzhang’s melee attacks.
While he doesn’t have a large number of close-to-far range melee attacks, he does have a few you’ll want to be on the lookout for. The first of which is a full 360-degree swing that will have a follow-up slam with the head of his staff. This is fairly easy to avoid and won’t be too dangerous for you when you’re up close, dealing damage.
One final attack that he has is in the form of a long-range grab that he can execute at any time. The telegraph for the move is easy to keep track of due to the nature of the windup he has for it. Lu Bingzhang will crouch and get lower than normal, with his hand lighting up, and then dash towards you for the grab. The grab attack is very easy to avoid and punish when used against you. But if you do get grabbed, you’ll suffer from instant corruption and any residual damage from the grab and the status buildup.

Lu Bingzhang isn’t the hardest boss in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers by any means, but he does have some tools at his disposal that will always keep you on your toes. Hesitating on your windows to attack when he switches between his attacks will draw out the fight more than needed, and if you get caught by any of his corruption attacks, it can spell the end of the fight in general. Make frequent use of your weapon abilities, perfect dodges, and methods to break his stance, and the fight will be over before you know it.
