Best Steam Deck mini SSD deal right now is this WD Black 2TB discount at Amazon

I recently ripped out my Steam Deck’s SSD and enthusiastically slapped in a WD Black SN770M 2TB mini SSD, and it’s easily the smartest thing I’ve done with it that didn’t involve tinkering around in desktop mode.

It’s down to $159.99 from $229.99 right now, which is a fairly good discount for a compact M.2 2230 drive that pushes 5,150MB/s reads without turning your Deck into a science project.

Swapping it in isn’t exactly rocket science, but that being said, it isn’t for everyone. Pop the back off, unplug the battery, pull a few screws, and you’re done… is what I would say if it was just that simple.

Still, it can be easy to do, just follow along a video online and take your time with it, is my advice. Just make sure the battery’s under 25% — Valve says that’s safer, and I’m not here to test if your Deck doubles as a fire hazard when you ignore them.

Will this void your warranty? Maybe. Depends on how generous Valve’s feeling that day. If you’re in the UK or EU, they’ve actually got to prove your upgrade caused the issue — good luck with that. Easiest play? Keep the old drive. If you ever need to send it back, slot the original in and pretend nothing happened. Toss in a half-decent case while you’re at it and maybe don’t drop it off a table.

If you don’t want the risk, just opt for a microSD card to expand your storage instead, it’s less of a permanent solution, and can be taken out and replaced at ease as well.
