Building Trust in Palworld

Building Trust in Palworld

Palworld recently introduced the Trust system, which incentivizes traveling with your favorite Pals by having their strength slowly grow as they learn to trust you. Through this system, Pals can gain boosts to their stats with enough time and patience. This article discusses this new system and how to best take advantage.

The Basics of Trust

Every Pal you capture has a Trust bar. Their Trust begins at Level 0 and can reach a maximum of Level 10. As trust builds, you will notice the bar to the right of a Pal’s Trust heart will grow. When it reaches all the way to the left, that Pal will gain a Trust Level.

Trust Levels boost a Pal’s stats (such as Attack and Defense); you can see the amount Trust is boosting a particular stat by selecting that stat in a Pal’s Info menu. The exact gains Trust provides aren’t fully understood and don’t seem to be fixed in the sense that different Pals with the same level of Trust will receive different boosts.

Gaining Trust is usually passive, with Pals in your party gaining Trust over time (even if not sent out). There is also an item which can boost a Pal’s Trust Level, discussed in more detail later. At present, there doesn’t seem to be any way to lose Trust. This latter detail seems likely to change in the future, but that’s to be determined.

Overall, Trust does make a Pal stronger, but it isn’t usually critical unless you are having a Pal fight an enemy of similar level and power. If you’re trying to maximize a Pal’s combat effectiveness, you’ll need to level Trust.

Maximizing Trust Gain

To maximize the amount of Trust you’re gaining, make sure to always have a full party of Pals. As might be obvious, you should prioritize Pals you actually intend to use. While Trust does seem to generate passively, note that it’s based on play time, so just sleeping through in-game days isn’t going to help build Trust.

It seemed like in testing that early Trust Levels were gained faster than later Trust Levels (which also makes logical sense from a gameplay perspective). In theory, this may mean you want to prioritize boosting the Trust of Pals you intend to use that have low levels of Trust first, getting an early boost in their stats, if all else is equal between a similar Pal with a higher Trust Level. However, that is at least somewhat subjective, as you’ll theoretically want your favorite Pals to eventually reach Trust Level 10 regardless.

Regardless, Trust can be further boosted through the use of the Kinship Peach, an item sold by the Vigilante Bounty Officer (found in the Small Settlement) for 15 Bounty Tokens. This item increases a single Pal’s Trust, allowing you to bump the Trust of newer Pals more quickly or potentially get a favorite Pal to max Trust quicker.

Kinship Peaches can also spawn in a few places in the wild, seeming specifically to spawn on the islands added with the Tides of Terraria update.

Some Unknowns

Trust is a relatively new system and not all its nuances have been uncovered yet. For example, the amount of Trust boosts a Pal’s attributes has been difficult to determine. There are images online of Pals with decent Trust Levels and Attack and Defense scores in the low thousands receiving less than a +150 to a stat from their Trust, which, while helpful, isn’t likely to make a big difference. Different Pals also receive different bonuses to Trust and what determines these differences isn’t yet known either. It seems likely their attribute scores impact the bonus, but if Trust is supposed to provide a certain percentage boost based on a Pal’s Trust Level, then the specifics of that boost can’t be found.

For reference, a Felbat was acquired in testing and quickly boosted to Trust Level 1. It is Level 23, with a default Defense score of 294. It gained a +5 Bonus from its Trust, putting it at 299. This is a total boost of about 1.7%. This boost feels almost random, but likely isn’t; it’s just that the details of the equation to calculate what Trust is doing aren’t known.
