Daredevil and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 star Charlie Cox is not a gamer, although he is one of the actors behind the universally beloved latter. After saying he felt like a “fraud” for the praise he’s received for starring in the game, Cox is now dedicated to giving the title a go after what appears to be a 20-year absence from video games.

Speaking at Galaxy Con 2025, Cox doubled down on his feelings regarding the praise he’s received for his inclusion in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, especially as he only spent a day recording lines for his character Gustave.

“People keep telling me that and I feel like a fraud,” Cox reiterated after being praised for his performance. “I just did the voice.”

However, after seeing the sheer amount of praise for the game as a whole, the actor wants to give it a go.

“I was very lucky in that I was asked to do the voice for a computer game [character],” Cox told fans at the event. “I’m not a gamer. I haven’t played it. I knew nothing about it other than I went to a studio and did four hours, probably, for this character.”

Cox explained that he was shocked by just how far games have come since the last time he really played video games. The Daredevil actor—who is currently 42-years old—explained that he hasn’t touched games since Mario first jumped into 3D.

“I remember being in the studio and thinking: ‘This is beautiful! The visuals are extraordinary. they’ve come a long way since Mario 64’. which was probably the last computer game I’ve ever played.”

“I need to play the game,” Cox continued. “I need to get a console first, and then I need to play the game.”

As for the game’s reception, the Daredevil actor is happy to see Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 receive the massive amounts of praise it has. While Cox himself may not be as big a part of the game as many assumed, there does seem to be a sense of pride finally emerging for his role in its success.

“It’s so cool,” the actor said. “I’m so happy for these guys, because they’re not a big company that makes a ton of games, and I hear it’s a frontrunner to win Game of the Year.”

Right now, Clair Obscur is one of three titles expected to take home the big Game of the Year Award at this year’s Game Awards. The AA RPG is going up against Death Stranding 2 and Donkey Kong Bananza, two huge competitors, but it does seem to still be many gamers’ choice for victory. Only time will tell!
