Death Stranding 2 has just come out and is a fantastic experience. Reviews agree that it is much better than the first game, and its overall Metacritic store positions it as one of the best games of 2025 so far. In wake of its great reviews, Death Stranding 2 has overtaken Mario Kart World in UK sales for the No 1 spot.
Death Stranding 2 debuts No.1 in UK sales
For the week ending June 28th, below is the top 10 best selling physical games in the UK via VGChartz:
- Death Stranding 2 – NEW
- Mario Kart World
- Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Minecraft
- The Thing Remastered
- EA Sports FC 25
- The Witcher III: Wild Hunt GOTY Edition
- Mortal Kombat 1
While Death Stranding 2’s placement appears positive on paper, there is some disclaimers. Per The Game Business’s co-founder, Christopher Ding, “Death Stranding 2 was No.1 in the UK physical charts last week [but] Its launch sales were -66% lower than Death Stranding 1”.
Ding rationalizes that this could be because we’re in “different eras” and “It’s a far more digital market today”. However, “It’s 33% lower than Astro Bot’s launch, but that was also a physical heavy release, too”.
Regardless of sales, DS2 is a phenomenon and is definitely worth experiencing. It’s an outside contender for game-of-the-year at best due to Clair Obscur Expedition 33 being firmly positioned as the most likely winner, but it’s still remarkable and it’s another masterpiece for Kojima’s portfolio.
In other gaming news, Sony has prematurely increased the price of games on the PSN store.
