DELTARUNE is now on Steam with Chapters 1-4 available

Developer tobyfox has released DELTARUNE on Steam, their follow-up to the smash-hit UNDERTALE and it’s a game that’s just insanely hard to describe.

Even the creator has a hard time talking about what exactly it is noting “I don’t know what you call this kind of game. It’s just a game you can play after you complete UNDERTALE, if you want to”. Is it actually connected to UNDERTALE? Well, that’s not entirely clear either. The developer said “It’s a different world that might even have different rules. That doesn’t mean there will be no connections at all though”. Okay then. It’s one of those you just have to play it to get it situations.

It’s been such a long time coming and such a big event for fans, the developer in the latest newsletter basically told you to stay off social media if you don’t want to see spoilers.

You won’t get any from me though, I haven’t even played Chapter 1. Both this and UNDERTALE just fly a bit over my head. Yeah, yeah — I know, I’m missing out. I’ll get around to them one day. Our resident contributor Samsai is the UNDERTALE / DELTARUNE nut who said to me “I have awaited for this day for aeons”. Perhaps now there’s more of it, I might blast through it in one go, being patient (just kidding, it’s a long backlog) sure does pay off.

So what the heck is it? A retro-styled episodic RPG, with battles that you can resolve peacefully or through violence.

It’s playable with the latest Proton 9.0-4 on Linux systems and Valve just today rated it Steam Deck Verified! As i was writing this the game hit 113,894 concurrent players on Steam — wow, that was fast.
