Elden Ring Nightreign duos mode is officially coming after bizarrely missing launch

Elden Ring Nightreign is finally bringing two-player duos matches to the brilliant Soulslike multiplayer game after missing launch. On launch, FromSoftware’s new multiplayer spin-off only allowed the game to played with either three-player squads or in a single-player run.
On the day of release, game director Junya Ishizaki apologised for the complete lack of duos options as the team had simply “overlooked” the desire for it. However, FromSoftware immeditaley promised it would come post-launch.
Elden Ring Nightreign Duos release date
After a bit of waiting, FromSoftware has delivered on its promise, and Elden Ring Nightreign Duos is coming in the game’s next major update. Coming in the game’s July 30, 2025 1.02 update, two players will now be able to explore the game’s slew of bosses together.
Alongside the addition of the game’s two-player mode, FromSoftware is also adding some other improvements. For example, players will now be able to better filter relics in their inventories with a large selection of options.
Finally, Elden Ring Nightreign 1.02 will also add some much needed “quality-of-life UI improvements” that should make the experience more stable and enjoyable. Unfortunately, there’s no word on any new bosses or Everdark Sovereign options, but what’s here is pretty damn strong.
While FromSoftware may have overlooked the feature’s inclusion for launch, it is nice to see Nightreign finally recieve a two-player option. Since launch, fans have even modded in the feature with one modder looking to add massive player counts for some truly cursed playthroughs.
FromSoftware’s next major release following Nightreign is its upcoming multiplayer PvPvE game The Duskbloods, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Following that, the studio is aiming to return to more single-player games, which is very exciting.
