Out of the blue, Arrowhead announced a new Warbond for Helldivers 2 called Control Group. This is the newest bundle coming to the game before HD2 joins Xbox consoles in late-August. With the launch of the new Premium package less than a week away, Arrowhead personnel have hyped the Control Group Warbond as their “favourite,” specifically pointing to new Wormhole tech and a deadly new weapon set to join the arsenal for Helldivers 2 players.
Helldivers 2 devs hype new Warbond as their “favourite”
On Discord, Arrowhead personnel have briefly been discussing the new upcoming Control Group Warbond with the community. While QA lead, Jojo, wouldn’t go as far as spoiling the stats for all the upcoming gear, they did at least say they’re not “nervous about this one,” and that it’s their “favourite” Arrowhead has done so far.

Previously, before the Warbond was unveiled, community manager, Baskinator, hyped the Warbond as one they’re extremely excited about, too. As for what has Baskinator excited the most, the community manager shared, “I am equal parts hype for the Warp Pack and Variable”.

For those who have not digested Arrowhead’s PlayStation Blog announcement, the LIFT-182 Warp Pack is a stratagem that is described as basically a “stable wormhole on demand”. It’s said that “Once the wormhole is active, wearers can teleport short distances with no cooldown between jumps”. However, while all of this sounds cool, there is the risk of a painful death as “users should bear in mind that the wormhole cannot maintain integrity for extended periods [as] each jump will further destabilize it”.
As for the VG-70 Variable, this is a unique and deadly “seven-barrelled volley gun with three different firing modes:
- Auto, which has three selectable RPM values
- Volley, which fires a single shot from each barrel at once
- Total, which fires all remaining ammunition in one go
Much like the Warp Pack, the VG-70 Variable is potentially deadly to the player, too, as R&D warns “that using the Total firing mode with a lot of ammunition may result in bodily harm to the user”.
Of course, there’s a lot more included in the Warbond than just these two features. Other inclusions players should anticipate include the “infinite laser firing” A/LAS-98 Sentry, as well as the G-31 Arc Grenade which “bounces while discharging electricity that strikes enemies (and Helldivers) in proximity”.
Helldivers 2 Control Group comes out on July 17th.
