Intel Adds Big Battlemage “BMG-G31” GPU Support To Compute Runtime, Four Device IDs Spotted

Intel’s big Battlemage GPU, codenamed BMG-G31, has received new support along with the addition of four Device IDs within the Compute Runtime.

Intel Preps For Big Battlemage “BMG-G31” GPU Launch As Support & Four Device IDs Added To Compute Runtime

The Big Battlemage “BMG-G31” GPU is hotly anticipated after the successful launch of the BMG-G21 series. The smaller die powers several products including the Arc B580, Arc B570 gaming cards, and the most recent Arc Pro B60, Arc Pro B50 offerings for AI workstation. Now, Intel seems to be going ahead with its bigger Battlemage die which has received brand new support within the Intel Compute Runtime.

Spotted by Phoronix, the Intel BMG-G31 GPU support was added to the Compute Runtime 25.27.34303.5. This mostly confirms that the work is ongoing for this bigger GPU which has been in the works for some time now. As per the latest commit “ff38005” which is titled “feature: add support for release 20.2 (BMG G31)”, four new device IDs specific to the Battlemage BMG-G31 GPU have been added which include the following:

  • 0xE220
  • 0xE221
  • 0xE222
  • 0xE223

There were also a few device IDs that have been showing up for a while now but those seem to be specific to the BMG-G21 GPU, and are likely the new Arc Pro parts. Based on some earlier reports, the BMG-G31 GPU is rumored to carry 32 Xe2 cores while retaining the GDDR6 memory interface, and also most likely a 256-bit bus interface for up to 16 GB memory, a 50% increase over the 12 GB VRAM on the Arc B580 (192-bit).

This will be a 60% increase in core count so we can expect the performance of products based on the BMG-G31 GPU die to end up close to the RTX 5060 Ti and RX 9060 XT, both of which are positioned within the $350-$450 US segment.

Now this isn’t the kind of enthusiast or high-performance category that you might have anticipated but it is still something. Intel has shown with the Arc B580 12 GB that it has a very competitive product at $249 US, and if the BMG-G31 “Battlemage” GPU launches around $329-$349 US, it could become a strong GPU offering.

If Intel does indeed launch its top BMG-G31 “Battlemage” GPU die and the respective products, we expect late 2025 to be a possible launch timeframe.
