MAJJAM, A Live Jam Co-op Adventure Game, Revealed for PC

MAJJAM, A Live Jam Co-op Adventure Game, Revealed for PC

French developer Opus Major, a team formed with some industry veterans from Ubisoft and other studios, has revealed their debut project, MAJJAM. The title is a multiplayer adventure being developed for PC (Steam) with the concept of adding a musical element to the world and the gameplay.

Jamming Together in a Musical World

Majjam Characters Gathering

MAJJAM is an MMO game in which players must traverse through the world using music as their weapon. The game isn’t based on rhythm mechanics, but intuitive controls and, according to the developers, performances harmonize together online with no visible latency. As such, players can create together in a more spontaneous fashion.

Strategizing is even more intense with friends involved.

The game revolves around the concept of a world where music is ingrained like a magic force that holds everything together. A dark force called Kodé is approaching and seems to be a major threat, corrupting the world with a fog that makes silence and death become the norm. By fighting Kodé, it’ll be possible to push beyond and explore zones that were previously unavailable.

To defeat enemies, handle puzzles and restore the world, players will have to learn a technique called “jamming.” It’ll be possible to pick stringed, wind and percussion instruments to “cast” melodies, unlocking more musical abilities over time to have access to different options when interacting with the world.

Collaborating with other players will be an important aspect of the experience. Not only does it mean having more people to handle the challenges, but, according to the developers, jamming together makes the effects of the music even stronger.

The official reveal trailer shows an animated intro and a small portion of gameplay. Keep in mind, however, that the game is still in early development, so it’s possible that the final product will have significant changes, especially as the team plans to hold a closed alpha and registration is currently underway on their official site.

Musicians from Various Tribes United Against Kodé

So far, four playable characters have been revealed, and a fifth one has a teaser on the game’s official site. The big guy in green clothes is Conga, a drum player whose tribe lives deep in the forest. He dedicates himself to protecting the world but doesn’t want anyone to see him, which is why he covers so much of his face and body.

Meanwhile, the chicken-man Owle comes from a tribe which is losing the war against Kodé. To avoid the worst-case scenario and protect his siblings, he decided to trade one of his wings for the ability to play a magic lute, which is his weapon of choice.

The character with a floating mask is Flamenca, a girl coming from the Guardian tribe. Her skills revolve around dancing rather than using an instrument and her stomps and spins are supposed to keep evil away.

Finally, Chug plays the flute. He doesn’t remember much about his past except that his village was unfortunately destroyed thanks to a sand storm. Thanks to his flute, he remained safe from this incident, and this instrument remains his only clue to his identity.

It’ll be possible to pick stringed, wind and percussion instruments to “cast” melodies, unlocking more musical abilities over time to have access to different options when interacting with the world.

More details about the game should come in the upcoming months, as Opus Major opens the playtest sessions and updates their social accounts on TikTok, X, Instagram and Discord.
