Man-Eating Dhutanga Phase 1

At the start, you’ll want to prepare and learn several mechanics.

Since this is one of the first bosses, you won’t have a ton of variety for this fight. Man-Eating Dhutanga will throw out some basic attacks with a bigger windup, telegraphing what it is about to do. The start of the fight will open up with a combination attack from the boss that will have 5 moves chained together.

Each attack from this combo will perform a sweeping motion in front of the boss. The second attack in the chain will start from the front and will sweep from its left and cover its back, reaching 180 degrees total. The third attack will do the same, but mirrored on the right side instead. In this combo, the rest are easily avoided and will cover the entirety of the Man-Eating Dhutanga’s front side.

After the combination attack is over. Man-Eating Dhutanga, you will want to be positioned behind the boss if possible. This means you can then strike with a heavy attack and stance-break the boss and perform a backstab attack. When the boss has been tossed on the ground, you will also get a chance to hit it with some extra damage while the animation for getting back up plays out.

The boss also has a move where it will stab its weapon into the ground and violently tear it free, creating a blast at the point where the weapon had been stabbed into the ground. The ground-stap will then adopt several of the moves from the first combination attack. If you time your dodge correctly, you can plant yourself fairly close to the boss while the combination goes on.

A charged heavy attack will allow you once again to stun the boss and get some more damage output. If you’ve maintained a defensive playstyle and attack when the boss is open, and perform at least two backstabs, you’ll have done enough damage for the boss to enter phase 2.

Man-Eating Dhutanga Phase 2

When close to half of its health is left, the boss will enter phase 2.

To mark when the next phase is starting, the boss will throw out a red mist, and their weapon will now light on fire. On top of the weapon being affected by this phase transition, there will also be an arena-wide fire attack that will burn away the flora around you and the boss. After the area of effect attack has been executed by the boss, it will then perform a breath attack that covers the area in front of the Man-Eating Dhutanga.

While this is the perfect moment to hit the boss with a charged heavy attack, you have to be fast too. If you are too slow when trying to stun the boss here, it will toss the flame into the air and strike it. When it hits the flame, there will be an explosion that will knock you back, and the boss will begin its next combination attack.

The combination attack for this phase will be somewhat different from the original, with the boss being more aggressive than before. Now the boss is going to charge at you, with the weapon on its left side and concealed under its robes, while closing the distance. The first attack will be a low diagonal uppercut that is easily dodged. Positioning yourself to the left or right of the boss will also allow you to avoid the follow-up hit that follows the same trajectory; however, it’s reversed for this attack. After these two attacks, the boss will then use another attack that will cover 360 degrees around it. The third attack will now feature a stab and a follow-up low attack that come out in quick succession, accompanied by a new version of the ground-stab explosion to conclude the combo.

After the boss performs the final hit in the fire combo, it will begin to recover and stand still for a brief moment. This is the perfect opportunity to hit the boss with a charged heavy stance-break and deal some damage now that you don’t have to worry about anything coming in your direction. There isn’t much left in terms of the moveset for Man-Eating Dhutanga, with most of what you’ll see here being a variation of the phase 1 attacks and some more of the phase 2 combination. Make sure you play defensively and stance break when you notice the boss isn’t being aggressive, and the rest of the fight will be a breeze.

Man-Eating Dhutanga isn’t going to be a massive trial for many players, but it still has some tricks up its sleeve to make sure you don’t get too comfortable. If you are too aggressive, the boss will be able to land hits on you with relative ease, but if you are patient and wait for the right moments to strike, you can take down the boss with 3-4 stance break backstabs paired with the follow-up damage you deal to the boss.
