One of the most exciting moments in all of comic books is DC’s Batman story Death of a Family, where readers could vote whether Robin lived or died at the hands of the Joker. Nowadays, we’ve seen voting in games such as Minecraft, World of Warcraft and more allowing players to choose which mobs or mechanics get added to their favourite games.
Marvel Rivals game director director Guangyun Chen is a fan of this idea. In an interview with VideoGamer prior to the release of the upcoming Season 3 update, Chen explained that player voting will more-than-likely arrive for future seasons, allowing you to pick which hero gets added to the hero shooter.
Marvel Rivals Hero Votes are being considered
Speaking to VG, Chen explained that the team at NetEase is very aware of just how active players are in dreaming up new heroes. Since release, players have not only clamoured for certain heroes or villains to become playable, but even designed entire movesets for them.
“We continuously pay attention to the community and have noticed that players frequently take the initiative to vote on new heroes they would like to see in the future,” Chen explained. “We consider these votes to be highly valuable and will use them as an important factor in our planning for upcoming seasons.”
In the future, fans may end up voting between heroes and villains, choosing which character wins a battle and ends up joining the roster of playable characters. While there are no concrete plans to introduce this social element to future seasons, it’s certainly a desire.
Alongside voting on upcoming heroes, Chen explained that the team is constantly monitoring “feedback on social media”, listening to fans when they dream up new features. For example, the recent skin customisation feature was added after fan feedback deemed it a necessary addition, even though the feature isn’t as vast as players would want.
The Marvel Rivals game director explained that every feature the team deems worthy of adding ends up being “researched by our internal team to assess its feasibility”, which may take longer than many fans believe it should take.
Chen also explained that the team is looking to bring more obscure heroes to its popular free-to-play game as the team has the “license” to adapt any Marvel character from the past 80 years of comic books, provided they’re still owned by Marvel. Everyone is cheering for Soft Serve, a character that craps ice cream. I’m still hoping for Devil Dinosaur or Doop or The Living Eraser or Hindsight Lad. Please, please add Hindsight Lad, please.
