Marvel Rivals continues to entice its player base with its vivid universe of iconic characters and fast-paced combat. In the past two major updates, NetEase released an exciting upgrade full of new features aimed at increasing player engagement. The Customized Color Costumes feature was a remarkable addition, allowing users to customize specific hero skins with distinct color palettes.

These customisable alternatives for heroes such as Magik, Psylocke, Luna Snow, and Winter Soldier were called “Chroma” variants and cost 600 Unstable Molecules (about $6). These additions seek to provide fans with greater creative control while staying faithful to the game’s dynamic design.

The Customized Color Costumes feature originally sparked interest, with gamers eager to experiment with new outfits for their favorite heroes. However, only a limited number of outfits enabled the feature, and NetEase promised that future updates would bring more possibilities. Despite this, subsequent developments indicate that NetEase has secretly abandoned plans to expand the color customizing system.

Marvel Rivals has abandoned Customized Color Costumes after releasing only four skins

Marvel Rivals introduced a costume customization feature on April 17, 2025, which included a costume customization feature that allowed players to use various color palettes to purchase premium skins. However, recent developments indicate that NetEase may have pulled back or abandoned plans to expand this service, disappointing several players.

As of June 13, 2025, no new skins had been uploaded to the customisation roster, and NetEase has not announced any additional updates for Season 3, leading to fan speculation that the function had been abandoned. The primary cause appears to be player backlash to the revenue scheme. Custom color palettes cost 600 Unstable Molecules (approximately $6) in addition to the base skin’s pricing (1,600-2,200 Units, or $16-$22), bringing the total cost of a single customized skin to $18-30.

Fans blamed this as exploitative, stating that color switches for owned skins should be free or low-cost. Furthermore, the limited number of customisable skins and the introduction of another premium currency made the community furious. NetEase may have delayed expansion to reconsider the feature’s deployment, maybe shifting focus to other cosmetic goals or addressing technical issues in order to prevent further alienating gamers.
