New mod recreates original Fallout as a first-person shooter

The popularity of Fallout exploded when Bethesda acquired the IP and shifted it away from its isometric roots and into an open-world shooter. The Isometric view point can be off putting to many who did not grow up in the golden age of CRPGs and as a result, few have gone back to experience the original Fallout games. That may change soon thanks to one ambitious mod.
Modder Alexander Berezin has been hard at work on Fallout: Bakersfield, a remake of the original Fallout 1 story, but set up as a DOOM style shooter, rather than a daunting CRPG.
As reported by Insider Gaming, the mod is said to be around 60% complete at this stage but there is no concrete release date or window, as is often the case with fan-led projects like this. The latest trailer for the game gives us a good look at what to expect, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
Fallout: Bakersfield was first announced in 2022, but game development is never a linear endeavour, so while it took two years to get to the ‘60% done’ stage, that doesn’t mean that it will only take another year or so to complete.
KitGuru Says: This mod looks fantastic judging by the latest trailer. If it gets more people to experience the original Fallout story, then I’m all for it.
