Nightdive has seen an “influx” of publishers wanting to work with them

Nightdive Studios is easily one of the most trusted remastering/porting houses around, with the team having worked on all sorts from DOOM to Quake; Turok and of course the System Shock remake. With so many successes under their belt, the team have revealed just how in-demand they currently are.

In an interview conducted by RPGSite, Nightdive Studios’ founder and CEO Stephen Kick spoke on a great deal of topics – ranging from their current projects; to their ownership under Atari and how they go about remastering games.

In discussing their increased success and cache within the industry, Kick was asked “Has it now reached a point where there are more people who want you to bring their games to modern platforms than you have time to do so?” to which he stated:

“Oh, absolutely. We’ve had that problem for quite a while now, actually. I’d say that probably around the time of DOOM 64 [2020], once we did that title, it was like, we could no longer afford to go out and find games.”

They continued, “It was more like, how are we going to handle the influx of people coming to us and asking us to do their game? So the whole thing kind of flipped on us where we weren’t looking for work. We were looking for people to come and work for us to do more games. It’s been like that ever since and it’s great.”

With a team of just 40 developers (as of 2022), Nightdive has seemingly managed to succeed in a time and place where so many studios are under-performing or worse.

Of course, the studio is working with many popular and recognizable IPs, but even so, they could not have gotten there without proving their worth. It will be interesting to see how Nightdive expands and improves further over time.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Nightdive’s work? Which porting studio do you trust the most? What would you like to see the team remake next? Let us know down below.
