NVIDIA Officially Launches Laptop GeForce RTX 5050 GPU; 2560 Shaders And 8GB GDDR7 Memory Confirmed

NVIDIA officially introduces the GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU and lifts an embargo on RTX 5050 laptop sales.

GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop Comes With 2560 CUDA Cores, 8 GB GDDR7 VRAM, 128-Bit Memory Bus, and 115W TDP; Performance Numbers Show Around 10% Higher Performance Than RTX 4050

NVIDIA has officially released its GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU today, which we reported on yesterday. The RTX 5050 is now officially part of the RTX 50 series lineup, but NVIDIA is yet to release the desktop variant. Currently, it has lifted the embargo on the RTX 5050 laptop GPU in China, and therefore, laptop makers will be able to sell the RTX 5050 laptops from today.

As per the details, the GeForce RTX 5050 will utilize the GB207 die and will feature 2560 CUDA cores. Therefore, there is no reduction in the shader count compared to the desktop variant, and hence, the performance should be somewhat closer, considering other specs are the same as well. The GPU officially brings 8 GB GDDR7 VRAM, which was previously reported many times. Its desktop variant was rumored to feature GDDR6 memory, but it’s safe to assume that it is going to get the GDDR7 memory as well.

The memory interface is 128-bit, and therefore, the total memory bandwidth should be equal to RTX 5060 mobile, which is 384 GB/s. Regarding power consumption, the GB207 chip is rated at 115W. We previously expected that the GB207 would be rated at 100W, but the GPU is now bringing the same 115W TDP limit as the RTX 5060.

One of the first laptop makers to launch RTX 5050-based laptops is Mechrevo, which introduced its Kuangshi X laptop, and ASUS, which introduced the TianXuan 6 edition. The laptop features the Core i7 14650HX and the price starts at 6559 Yuan or US$913. As per the report, these are only 30–40 dollars cheaper than the RTX 5060 laptops.

As far as performance goes, the GeForce RTX 5050 laptop is noticeably faster than the RTX 4050. In Time Spy, the RTX 5050 scores 10269 points, which is around 9% higher than the RTX 4050 but around 18% slower than the RTX 5060 laptop GPU. In Firestrike Extreme, it is roughly 19% slower than the RTX 5060 and about 18% slower in Port Royal. However, it is 27% faster than the RTX 4050 in Port Royal, making a good generational gain.

The GeForce RTX 5050 desktop variant is rumoredly to be coming on 1st July, which is a bit earlier than what was originally planned. The GPU will probably mark the end of the first RTX 50 series batch, and then NVIDIA will start releasing the Super GPUs.
