NVIDIA reveal more GPU driver security issues for July 2025

Time to get updating your NVIDIA GPU driver, as more security issues have been revealed in their July 2025 Security Bulletin.

We were wondering why NVIDIA had been incredibly vague on what actually changed in their recent driver releases. With both the 570.172.08 and 575.64.03 that I covered here on GamingOnLinux only noting “Minor bug fixes and improvements”. NVIDIA did the same again with 575.64.05 that arrived earlier this week. Now we know why then.

From the security bulletin here’s the issues noted that affect Linux systems:

CVE‑2025‑23278 NVIDIA Display Driver for Windows and Linux contains a vulnerability where an attacker might cause an improper index validation by issuing a call with crafted parameters. A successful exploit of this vulnerability might lead to data tampering or denial of service. High

CVE‑2025‑23279 NVIDIA .run Installer for Linux and Solaris contains a vulnerability where an attacker could use a race condition to escalate privileges. There’s a few more specific to Windows I’m not including here.

According to NVIDIA you’re safe if you’re on at least 575.64.05, 570.172.08 or 535.261.03. All prior versions in each series are vulnerable to the issues.
