Pixel Users Will Soon Be Able To Turn Off Their Screens With A Simple Double-Tap, As Google Works On Adding The Long-Awaited Feature In Android 16

Companies are increasingly looking for ways to improve the user experience by offering features that make using the phone more seamless. Samsung has been working on this especially and offers capabilities that make it possible to wake up and turn off a screen just by double-tapping it. Google Pixel phones did not have a similar experience; only the option to turn off the phone from sleep mode by doing a double tap on the screen was available. It seems like that is about to change with the Android 16 Beta 4, as the tech giant is determined to improve the experience and make it catch up with the offerings of other Android phones.

Pixel phones are getting a useful upgrade to help bring a smooth experience for their users with Android 16 Beta 4

Pixel users have been looking forward to Android 16 Beta 4 and the features it will bring. From what we are gathering, it looks like the update is not going to disappoint, as it brings a handy feature that the users have long been waiting for. A report by the Android Authority highlighted a hidden code that was spotted in the latest beta, pointing to a double-tap gesture being introduced for Pixel users to turn off their screens.

While it is still in the air, how the double-gesture would work and if it would rely on empty spaces on the lock screen or any area of the home screen would suffice. Users hope both screens will have the capability and be closer to Samsung’s offering of its One UI software. While Pixel users could use the double-tap option through a third-party app, they would be relieved to know there would no longer be the need, as Google would now bring the experience directly through Android.

The feature is expected to be available sometime in June once the stable release of Android 16 is out. This is not the only feature that will be available when Android 16 is officially available, as more improvements will also be underway, such as the Supervision page, which is linked to Google’s Family Link, and other key features.

While there are chances of the launch being delayed, we really hope it will not be the case, and we will soon see this huge improvement: a double tap is all you need to turn off the screen for your Pixel phones.
