PS Plus May 2025 free games include smash hit Game Awards winner and more

After a slew of PS Plus price increases across the globe, there has been a lot of hope that the May 2025 free games will be better than usual. There was only one possible leak online that turned out to be wrong, but, other than that, noise around the upcoming freebies was quiet. Fortunately, Sony has now pulled the curtain aside, and here you will find the PS Plus May 2025 Essential free games along with everything known to be leaving the subscription service.

PS Plus May 2025 free games

Below are the newly announced PS Plus May 2025 free games as confirmed on the PlayStation Blog:

• ARK Survival Ascended
• Balatro
• Warhammer 40K Boltgun

The release date for when these games will come out to play is May 6th. It’s a decent selection, and you will want to make sure you claim the games before the offer expires on June 2nd. This will allow you to return to the games at any point in the future so long as you remain a subscriber.

Balatro is a fantastic and addictive experience that won best debut indie game at the Game Awards 2024, and was also a nominee for the coveted Game of the Year. ARK Survival Ascended is a gorgeous replay of the original ARK Survival Evolved, and Warhammer 40K Boltgun is a magnificent, pixelated first-person shooter within the Warhammer universe.

Extra and Premium games reveal date

While the Essential games have just been announced, we have to wait until May 14th for the next addition of Extra and Premium games to be revealed.

There are no recent rumors as of writing, but trophies and a rating for a PS2 port of Wall.E was leaked a while ago. Many presumed Wall.E would join in March and then April, but it never happened, so it’s possible it could finally be added in May. However, this is by no means official.

After the Extra and Premium additions are announced on May 14th, they will then be added and become playable on May 20th. Here’s hoping for a good assortment of games as there are over 20 titles leaving.
