PS3 Shooter Unexpectedly Returning After More Than a Decade – Report

A PS3 shooter series that hasn’t seen a new entry since 2013 might end up releasing on the PS5, if a new rumor is to be believed. Techland is making a new Call of Juarez game, according to a reliable insider, and it’s being built on Unreal Engine.
Will PS3 shooter Call of Juarez see the light of day on PS5?
This report comes from none other than known insider Tom Henderson, who has a pretty stellar track record. Writing on his website Insider Gaming, Henderson claims that a Call of Juarez “sequel has been in development for some time.”
This suggests that the next Call of Juarez will make its way to PS5, but given Techland’s troubles right now, that remains to be seen.
The troubles that we speak of are two canceled games, per Henderson, that cost the studio approximately $37 million in losses in 2024. A year prior, Techland incurred a loss to the tune of $25 million. One of the canceled games was reportedly a fantasy action RPG.
“Game development is never a straight line, and sometimes fresh approaches are necessary to make great games,” Techland said in a statement to Insider Gaming. “What’s important here is that none of the reported changes have resulted in staff reductions.”
Call of Juarez spanned two games, both of which were published by Ubisoft. The original game released in 2006 followed by Call of Juarez: Gunslinger in 2013. Publishing rights moved back to Techland in 2018.
