Reese Boss Fight Guide The First Berserker Khazan

Reese is the second-to-last Boss fight in the First Berserker: Khazan, and it occurs right before Ozma and Khazan’s final confrontation within the Great Temple. Reese is Khazan’s lifelong friend and the former fiancĂ© of Ozma. When the Emperor had her killed for refusing to become his concubine, Ozma resorted to chaos magic to resurrect her, although her body no longer contained the soul of the woman he once loved.
This guide will walk you through Reese’s boss fight with tips, strategies, and more to aid you in completing your run in Normal Mode without swapping to the easier difficulty. By completing this guide, you’ll be able to progress in Khazan’s story as well as collect the Achievement: Faded Memories.

Phase 1
Reese Patterns
- Lightning Toss: A brief lightning bolt that tracks the player, can be dodged at the last second before moving in for a free hit on Reese.
- Summoned Lightning: Three lightning spheres appear around Reese’s head before being thrown at the player after slashing forward. Dodge around the slash and do the same with the spheres.
- Pure Light Barrier: Reese summons thin barriers of light to trap herself and the player closer to one another. The barrier isn’t fully enclosed and can be escaped by dodging out, or you can trap Reese outside her spell walls to punish her with free attacks while remaining inside for the spells’ duration.
- Lightning Slash and Toss: Reese will gather lightning in her hand and slash at Khazan before tossing a second lightning orb at the player. Guard and dodge to gain momentum to move back in and punish the opening after the toss.
- Charged White Lightning: Reese summons lightning and launches it towards wherever the player is standing to deal AOE damage. The circle will first form under the player, giving you a few seconds to dodge or run out of the radius before the attack hits. Blocking will only result in chip damage.
- Double Wing Attack: Reese takes to the air and flies downward at the player, swiping at them twice before landing. Dodge or Brink Guard both attacks in a row.
While slightly harder than Hismar, Reese is easily staggered, and half of her spells during Phase 1 can be interrupted by strikes to her back during a cast or directly after. During Phase 1, she uses mostly mage-focused spells, including a light barrier that can enclose a small area in the arena to make movement difficult to maneuver. Staggering Reese can be done after her casts, as she won’t move fast enough to avoid most charged attacks by the player and is easily exhausted with no chance of replenishing back to full like previous bosses.
Each time Reese is exhausted, her body will glow a dark purple and flash, dealing chip damage if the player is too close. So, if you intend on using Brutal Blow on her during her exhausted state, move away at a safe distance immediately afterward.
Phase 2
Reese Advanced Patterns
- Unblockable Scythe Dive: Reese will dive after taking flight towards Khazan, listen for the sound cue before dodging sideways.
- Lightning Circles: Reese will summon small, tight circles of chaotic energy that explode if the player is inside them for too long.
- Multi-Hit Scythe Combo: Up to five quick slashes and stabs in succession. Either dodge out of the way completely or Brink Guard all the hits to exhaust and temporarily stun Reese.
- Scythe Thrust: A single quick stab forward with the scythe, dodge to the side, as dodging backwards will result in chip damage.
- Upward Scythe Thrust: Reese swings her Scythe upwards, dodging to the side to avoid the hit.
- Dark Teleport: Reese disappears in a chaotic blink before reappearing in front of Khazan, dealing medium scythe damage to the player up to three times. The moment Reese reappears, dodge backwards to avoid the sideswipe of the scythe.
At the depletion of her health bar, Reese will fall to her knees before transforming into a dark demonic version of her angelic bride visage and being equipped with a scythe. Her movement patterns increase in speed, as well as her dark teleport, which Khazan will have to dodge to avoid being grabbed. Her scythe swings will become more aggressive, and her light barriers will enclose a larger space than before. However, she can get stuck just outside the barrier if you manage to hit her mid-cast, allowing you safety from her dark teleport and to get a few extra hits in before the barrier disappears.
Keep the vitality orbs on hand for quick stamina regeneration unless the applicable Phantom is equipped to deal with stamina replenishment instead. Use your dodge instead of Brink Guard as Reese’s chaos build up has a higher chance of building past what a Chaos Resistance Potion can provide if her multi-scythe hit combo or dark teleport attacks hit Khazan through an exhausted Guard.
Reese can still be heavily staggered. By staying close to her, she won’t be able to use her teleport as often or summon her lightning tosses, allowing for more heavily melee-focused combat. Soon after you exhaust her at least four more times, Reese’s dwindling health, around 25%, can be whittled down by utilizing Khazan’s Phantom form to end her.
