Rust has sold over 20 million copies on Steam alone

Rust needs little to no introduction, with the PC-focused multiplayer survival game taking over Steam when it launched in Early Access back in 2013. Created by the maker of Garry’s Mod, Rust has seen just as much success – having now officially sold over 20 million copies on Steam alone.

Releasing a video to YouTube recapping the past 6 months of additions and events in Rust, the team at Facepunch revealed that the game has now officially sold over 20 million copies. What’s more, this represents Steam users exclusively, meaning that the game has likely sold millions more when accounting for players across PlayStation and Xbox.

As mentioned however, Rust is a PC focused title, with the game being exclusive to the platform from its Early Access launch back in 2013 up until 2021.

Still, even without the added console players, Rust is easily one of the best selling games around – sitting only slightly behind the studio’s other success story ‘Garry’s Mod’ (which surpassed 25 million copies late last year).

With the recent release of the Friends with Benefits update, it is clear that Facepunch has no plans to slow down its support for Rust. It will be interesting to see whether Rust manages to break its peak CCU which it achieved right at the tail-end of last year.
