Samsung launches world’s first 500Hz OLED and new G7 Lineup

There’s fast, and then there’s FAST. Samsung is aiming for the latter with the launch of the Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 – the world’s first 500Hz OLED gaming monitor. Now, if you watch the monitor space there’s always a compromise with these ultra-high speed monitors, and most of the time that’s size. Not so with this new G6 and G7 lines. Let’s get into the juicy details:

Samsung Electronics America today announced the launch of the Odyssey OLED G6, the world’s first 500Hz OLED gaming monitor, and two new form factors, the 37-inch Odyssey G7 and the 40-inch Odyssey G7, to its gaming lineup. All three monitors are available for purchase in the US starting today.

Building on its three-year leadership in the US gaming monitor market1 plus its leadership in OLED gaming displays2, Samsung is once again expanding the boundaries of gaming performance with the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SF) and Odyssey G7 (G75F) monitors.

My eyes are already glazed over, thinking of what a 500Hz 40″ monitor would look like with the right game. Naturally, these are aimed at competitive gaming, but there are plenty of games that benefit from high-refresh beyond first person shooters. Games like Rocket League, fighting games, and other games with faster paced mechanics are obvious beneficiaries of a faster refresh rate, but there’s also something to be said for just having an overall smoother experience. Let’s take a closer look at the two models announced here specifically:

The 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 delivers an entirely new level of gaming performance. With a world-leading 500Hz refresh rate, an ultra-fast 0.03ms response time (GTG), and QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution powered by QD-OLED technology, the monitor ensures games remain fluid, sharp, and responsive — even during the most intense action. Certified with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500,3 the Odyssey OLED G6 delivers vivid colors and ultra-deep, true blacks. It supports NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro for smoother, tear-free visuals and a competitive edge.

Additionally, the Odyssey OLED G6 is Pantone Validated, ensuring highly accurate color reproduction, with the ability to display over 2,100 colors and more than 110 SkinTone shades from Pantone’s library. Combined with its brilliant QD-OLED display, the monitor delivers vivid, true-to-life visuals that bring gaming worlds to life just as developers intended.

1440p and 0.03ms response time, combined with a 500Hz refresh rate should make for fast gaming, but the 1000 nits of brightness and glare-free OLED will produce gorgeous and deep blacks and great contrast. What about the G7?

The Odyssey G7 lineup introduces new form factors designed for bold gaming experiences with smooth interactions and realistic gameplay. 37-inch Odyssey G7 features a 37” 1000R curved display that wraps around you, widening your field of vision and bringing gaming worlds to life. The display is also equipped with a steady 165Hz refresh rate, a near-instant 1ms response time (GTG), and 4K UHD Resolution (3,840 x 2,160), elevating gameplay with more pixels than FHD for vivid detail.

While it’s not 500Hz, there’s something amazing about 165Hz at 4K resolution with a 1ms refresh rate. At 37″ and curved, it should also provide an excellent edge to edge wraparound experience without distortion. My current monitor is an older model of this family, so I can tell you that it is not only beautiful, it also eases eye strain over long sessions. What about the G7 40″?

The 40-inch Odyssey G7 features a 40” 1000R curved display and ultra-wide 21:9 screen offering a broader view than UHD for a highly captivating and visually engaging panoramic gaming experience. The display also delivers ultimate speed with a 180Hz refresh rate, a near-instant 1ms response time (GTG), and a WUHD Resolution (5,120 x 2,160) for unparalleled visuals. Certified with VESA DisplayHDR 600, both displays deliver exceptional clarity, with deeper blacks and brighter whites. They also support AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro for smoother, tear-free visuals and a competitive edge.

40″, curved, and ultrawide, with a refresh rate of 180Hz and 1ms response time!? I’ve actually seen this monitor in action loaded into a motion simulation racing rig and let me tell you – there’s simply nothing like it. I could stand to learn a little more:

The Odyssey G7 lineup is designed for gamers who desire a sleek display optimized for efficient multitasking with vibrant visuals. Auto Source Switch+ automatically detects when connected devices are turned on, instantly switching to new source signals without interruptions. CoreSync technology, equipped with 16.7 million colors, and CoreLighting+ project the vibrant on-screen colors into the real-world for a truly captivating experience, while an ergonomic stand promotes optimal comfort with the ability to tilt and adjust monitor height. The 40-inch Odyssey G7 also provides split screen capabilities for side-by-side gameplay, as well as content management capabilities, all on a single screen with Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture.

The monitors are available right now, and they aren’t as expensive as you might expect for as powerful and feature-rich as they are.
