SoftBank CEO Wants To Create a Trillion-Dollar “Crystal Land” In Arizona Which Will Drive Up the US Dominance In The AI Sector; TSMC & NVIDIA to Be Potentially Onboard As Well

SoftBank’s CEO, Masayoshi Son, is known for his optimistic ideas, and it seems like he has come up with a new one, as he is looking to team up with TSMC for a “trillion-dollar” project.
SoftBank’s CEO Wants To Ensure That the US Has Its Own Manufacturing Hub, Similar To China’s Shenzhen
There’s no doubt that chip production has evolved into a matter of “national security” for countries like the US and China, and they are pouring in resources to ensure that they remain relevant in this segment. This hype has been capitalized on by investors like Masayoshi Son, who aims to develop a massive manufacturing hub in the US, which will be backed by TSMC and NVIDIA, and will ensure that the US stays ahead in the race for AI supremacy. Codenamed “Project Crystal Land”, it involves building a complex in Arizona and is a project that promotes the development of AI infrastructure, and most of all, will cost $1 trillion (via Bloomberg).
Well, the Japanese investor is known for his “large-scale” investment proposals, many of which don’t even exist. Backed when President Trump was elected, Son announced to invest over $200 billion into the US, through various projects, notably the famous “Stargate” initiative, which involved OpenAI, Oracle, and many other Big Tech firms. Now, SoftBank’s CEO has plans to replicate what China has done with Shenzhen, which is to create a manufacturing hub that will allow the US to maintain self-reliance in fields like AI, humanoid robots, and chip production.

Son’s visit to create an industrial park in the US has met with skepticism, particularly with how SoftBank’s CEO is known to drive up stock prices by his “over-optimistic” plans, which are later abandoned due to financial constraints. SoftBank is reportedly in talks with the federal government about getting incentives and investment from authorities for the Arizona project, and the company is also looking to partner up with TSMC and NVIDIA to ensure that Big Tech is onboard as well.
The exact specifics of the plans haven’t been revealed yet, and we only know that it will be a manufacturing hub. Still, considering TSMC’s investments in the US, the Taiwan giant could hesitate to partner with SoftBank, since it has its own thing going. For now, Son’s vision of Crystal Land are just plans, and given the history, we should take such announcements with a grain of salt.
