Something for the Weekend – 19/07/25

We’ve enjoyed plenty of lightning and thunder last night, with the promise of life being a bit cooler and a bit wetter in the UK for the coming week. With so much gaming tech and hardware in the house, I’ll admit I unplugged a few things just in case… but they’re getting full use again now that the risk of sudden and unwanted electricity has moved away.

In the News This Week

Tuffcub gets the headline of the week, and I doubt I need to tell you which one it was!

Games in Review & Featured Articles

A bumper crop of reviews, including the eminently enjoyable ape shenanigans of DK’s 3D platforming return… but was that the highlight of the week?

  • Eriksholm: The Stolen DreamPS5, XSX|S, PC – 10/10
  • The DrifterPC – 9/10
  • Donkey Kong BananzaNSW2 – 8/10 (Video)
  • Islanders: New ShoresPS5, XSX|S, NSW, PC – 8/10
  • No Sleep for Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files – NSW2, NSW, PC – 8/10
  • Ready of NotPS5, XSX|S, PC – 8/10
  • RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished BusinessPS5, XSX|S, PC – 8/10
  • Chains of FreedomPS5, XSX|S, PS4, PC – 6/10

And for a little something extra, let’s have our one hardware review as well, of the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless, which has a surprise secret Switch 2 feature as well now.

With the impending release of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Ade delved in with a look at the game’s Chinese mythology and the late Ming Dynasty era. Aran, meanwhile, put class disparity through the lens of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.

And I went hands on with Regions of Ruin: Runegate, which is a bit like Stargate, if it was Dwarves and fantasy.

Rounding out the week, What We Played featured Eriksholm, RoboCop and DK Bananza!

What have you played this week?

  • The sun went away long enough for TSBonyman to play more Tainted Grail and to make a start on Dead Island 2, or more accurately, a re-start, picking up from his trial save file.
  • Dead Island 2 was also on Andrewww’s playlist, as he checked it out before it left PS Plus. He found it a little disappointing though, so moved along to The Stanley Parable, which he enjoyed somewhat, and watched his daughter playing Astro Bot.

That’s the round up for this week’s round up, enjoy the weekend and we’ll see you for more gaming gubbins on Monday.
