The team behind the biggest Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 mod, Astartes Overhaul, is continuing to work on Saber Interactive’s co-op game. After adding an awesome 12-player co-op mod to the game, the team is now working on massive MMO-like raids and a slew of other modes.
Speaking to IGN, modder Warhammer Workshop, explained that the team is working with the support of Saber Interactive to add massive raid missions to the game on PC. While there’s currently no release date for the new mission types, the team is currently working hard to massively expand the game.
Space Marine 2 raids are coming
In an interview with the outlet, Warhammer Workshop explained that cracking 12-player co-op was thought to be impossible, but Saber’s support made it possible. However, this is just the start of the team’s plans for the game.
“None of us expected 12-player PvE sessions to be possible this soon — but somehow, here we are,” the modder said. “Thanks to [Saber’s] generosity and trust, this huge leap forward is finally here, and it completely changes what we can do.”
As for the upcoming raid missions, the modder explains that the team is aiming to offer a brand-new experience with “bosses that hit like trucks, take proper teamwork to bring down, as well as some other completely new mechanics.”
However, even outside of the very exciting raid mode, the team is working on a form of prop hunt, new PvE operations and is already drawing up plans for horde mode improvements when the mode finally launches.
“As both a modder and a player, it’s hard not to be excited,” the modder continued. “Huge credit as always to the Saber team for not just making all this possible, but continuing to drop amazing content of their own too, without any of the usual predatory battle-pass nonsense we take for granted in modern titles.”
With over 20,000 fans in the Space Marine 2 modding Discord server, there are many teams working on giving the game more life than anyone expected. While Saber continues work on new Operations, Horde Mode and more, the studio is also beginning work on Space Marine 3.
At the time of writing, very little is known about the upcoming sequel. However, Saber has already described the game as a “bigger and better” follow-up with more large-scale battles than its predecessor. (We’re also hoping for a melee combat overhaul.)
