Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone’s adorable farming game Stardew Valley has changed the industry, causing a surge in so-called “cosy games”, but it’s still the peak of its cutesy sub-genre. Now, almost a decade after release, the game has been rated the number one Steam game of all time.

Stardew Valley is the best-rated Steam game

Stardew Valley is almost universally beloved to the point where even people who don’t vibe with the farming game still know that it’s pretty damn great. While the game will no longer be receiving official updates as Barone works full-time on Haunted Chocolatier, the game is also supported by fans who continually release fan-made expansions, new mechanics and more.

Via Steam250, a website that uses internal SteamDB metrics to calculate the 250 best games on Valve’s digital games storefront, Stardew Valley has slowly jumped up to the number one spot, becoming the all-time best game on Steam. Previously, Portal 2 held this position for 14 years.

Based on a calculation of positive user reviews versus the number of reviews available for a title, ConcernedApe’s farming game has taken the number one spot as the best Steam game of all time, largely due to the sheer volume of users that have played the game and have fallen in love with it.

Stardew Valley has a score of 8.87, with 98% positive user reviews across 899,986 votes. In second place sits Portal 2 with a higher 99% reception but with 436,665 votes. Third is Terraria with a staggering 1,420,139 votes but at only 97%, taking it further down the rankings.

There is is.

Of course, the top 250 Steam games is an ever-changing list, and Stardew Valley may not actually rest at the top of the tower for very long. However, it’s current placement shows just how much the game is truly loved, and it deserves every single positive vote.
