The Gathering release schedule 2025
What is the current MTG release schedule? This guide tracks all of the upcoming Magic sets in 2025, including release dates, mechanics, and story details. From space travel to Spiderman, there’s a lot to look forward to this year. We’re revisiting a fan-favorite plane, exploring a new one for the first time, and – love ’em or hate ’em – there are a lot of Universes Beyond crossovers coming out too.

Below we’ve collected all the available Magic: The Gathering release dates and windows for 2025 – starting with the upcoming sets and then reviewing the latest releases.

Upcoming set release dates
There are four upcoming Magic sets scheduled for 2025, including one in-universe set themed around original MTG lore and three Universes Beyond sets featuring crossovers with other beloved fantasy settings. Read on for details on all four, followed by a run down of the three 2025 Magic sets that have already dropped.
Final Fantasy – June 13, 2025
With a massive collection of draftable cards, plus Commander decks, there’s room here for every famous Final Fantasy character and creature you could care to name. Expect to see it all, from a Sephiroth that really wants to kill Aerith to an extra-rare Golden Chocobo.
The spoilers revealed so far have been triggering price spikes all over the place, thanks partly to the sheer number of infinite combos fans have spotted. There’s also some delightfully strange synergy between this release’s summons cards and Tom Bombadil of the Lord of the Rings set.
MTG x FF is a love letter to the Final Fantasy franchise, and obviously a massive seller, but it has one more historical mark to make on Magic. From this set onwards, Wizards is making all Universes Beyond sets legal in Standard.

Edge of Eternities – August 1, 2025
The third (and final) Magic universe set of the year is Edge of Eternities, dropping on August 1, 2025. This is Magic’s take on science fantasy, featuring alien races, planets, spaceships and more. Based on the name, we’re guessing this has something to do with ‘The Blind Eternities’, the gaps between planes where the Eldrazi come from.
Though the space whales immediately put us in mind of Spelljammer, D&D’s space fantasy setting, Edge of Eternities has proper sci-fi style ships too, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see vehicle included. This set is not hard sci-fi however – Wizards assures us that magic is still very much a part of the setting.
The main villain for this release is a familiar one: everyone’s favorite evil metal man, Tezzeret.

Marvel Spiderman – September 26, 2025
Wizards of the Coast also has a big Marvel crossover releasing on September 26, 2025. The company has a multi-year deal with Marvel, so it’s working on more than one Marvel set. The first will be Spiderman themed, so we can expect all different versions of the webslinger, plus his extensive rogue’s gallery, to arrive on cards at some point next year.
Though the set is still some time away, we’ve already seen the first Spiderman cards, in a collage that features the hero fighting Doc Ock, Venom, and the Green Goblin.
We wonder what other Marvel products are coming out next – perhaps a 2026 set themed around the X-men or Avengers?

Avatar: The Last Airbender – November 21, 2025
Finally, there is another UB crossover set on the way as the final big release of 2025. And it’s likely to be a crowd-pleaser: it’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.
As it’s still many months away, we don’t have many details to share about this release. We do know it’s purely based on the original series, however, with no Legend of Korra characters muddling things up.
While the fantasy world of Avatar seems like a brilliant fit for Magic, it’s notable that this is the first full UB set based on a cartoon. It’ll be super interesting to see how Wizards chooses to apply Magic’s art style to this property!
That’s all the upcoming Magic: The Gathering sets we know about, though the game’s head designer Mark Rosewater has confirmed that the return to the Celtic folklore inspired plane Lorwyn will be the first in-universe Magic set of 2026.

Latest MTG sets released in 2025
Innistrad Remastered – January 24, 2025
It’s becoming something of a tradition for Magic: The Gathering to drop a remastered set at the start of each year, and in 2025 that set was Innistrad Remastered. Containing reprints of cards from all seven sets taking place on the Gothic Horror plane of Innistrad, this set had all your favorite vampires, zombies, ghosts, and werewolves in one place, doing the Monster Mash.
Innistrad Remastered also brought some some much-needed reprints for cards like Edgar Markov and Emrakul, The Promised End. The collector Boosters feature sweet movie poster art – always a good style on a Magic card.
Aetherdrift – February 14, 2025
Start your engines! The first premier Magic: The Gathering set of 2025 was Aetherdrift, a racing-themed set that takes place on three different planes. There’s Kaladesh, Amonkhet, and the never-before-seen land of Muraganda.
This set, the latest to be released from Wizards has something of a wacky races feel, as the contest has ten different teams – each with its own distinct vibe. There’s one for every color pair, and each hails from a different plane. Competitors include a crew of fish people pirates, a team of reckless tinkerer goblins, and a gang of Mad Max biker punks.
Aetherdrift is filled with Vehicles, with race-based mechanics like Start Your Engines and Exhaust. But the set’s Commander precon decks strike a different tone, one focused on Amonkhet’s zombies, the other on Avishkar’s energy.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm
On April 11, 2025 we returned to Tarkir for the first time in a decade with Tarkir: Dragonstorm. This particular sojourn attempted to resolve the tension between the two different versions of this plane seen in previous releases. People were rebelling against the dragons and rediscovering the clans of old, so the set featured both giant dragons and the different cultures of the three-color clans.
As was fitting for a set about massive dragons, the new cards were pretty beefy. Call the Spirit Dragons came with a spicy alternate win condition, while the iconic Craterhoof Behemoth was reprinted and brought back to Standard. Some delightfully busted planeswalkers and a standard-warping artifact were also introduced.
