These are the Best Pokemon Characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

These are the Best Pokemon Characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Pokemon characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate vary in strength from Pichu’s weak electrical powers to Charizard’s phenomenal rush of fire. They each offer a unique play style that can turn the tides of battle against the likes of Mario, Captain Falcon, and Megaman. Some of these rankings might come as a surprise to many people, but the fact is that the strength of a Pokemon and its legendary status in the anime, manga or the Pokemon lore, doesn’t necessarily translate into strength in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Here are the best Pokemon characters in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

7

Pichu

A Weak Menace

Pichu is weak in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The worst Pokemon in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is easily Pichu. While it has great mobility throughout the stage, thanks to its small body, it hurts itself with each move it lays out towards foes. It can also be knocked out quicker than other Pokémon, due to its size too. The electric attacks are well suited for battle, however. It has a decent projectile Thunder Shock that can hit enemies from far away.

The down-B attack Thunderbolt can be quite strong against Pichu’s foes. Furthermore, its recovery is decent. It can’t knock out opponents as easily as other Pokémon, on the other hand. It can be adorable, but Pichu is the worst Pocket Monster in the Super Smash Bros. series.

6

Jigglypuff

Sadly Too Slow for Her Opponents

One of the lowest-tiered characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (according to eSports group Luminosity, who gives her a C- rank in 2025) is Jigglypuff. Her attacks are quite weak and easy to avoid. Her floating is slow, and there is a lack of a recovery move. Her Down-B blink is powerful but hard to hit, even for seasoned pros.

Additionally, Jigglypuff’s Final Smash is one of the weakest in the game with her simply growing big and mildly pushing her foes backwards. Her neutral air attacks are decent and can easily combo. However, she is easy to knock out, just like Pichu. While her taunts are funny to look at, this pink puffball is easy to deal with, competitively.

5

Mewtwo

He Should Be a Powerful Legendary But…

The all-powerful Mewtwo surprisingly falls short on most tierlists in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. His movement is slow, leaving him open to enemy attacks. Due to his weight, he can be easy to deal with in certain situations.

The recovery move isn’t particularly useful with a low reach, and it’s easy to predict for seasoned players. His Confusion and Disable attacks aren’t as useful in battle like the prior game Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. However, the Psychic Pokemon does have a lot of reach with his tail as he swipes it for an aerial attack.

4

Incineroar

A Strong Wrestler

Despite an awful recovery move that has a specific movement pattern and low reach, Incineroar is a powerful Pocket Monster in the field of battle. He has powerful strength and can dismiss an opponent with his drop kicks and other wrestling moves in a moment’s notice. His counter-attack is hard to deal with.

Just because they aren’t Legendary doesn’t mean these Pokémon don’t pack a punch.

Incineroar has a grab attack that throws his foes into the wrestling ropes and if you time it perfectly, the Pokemon can demonstrate an epic strike. Incineroar can also dish out some nasty combos as Frenzy Light has shown on YouTube. The cat’s spike attack can be particularly gruesome as well if you land it right. His poor recovery is a huge issue, but other than that, Incineroar is a great asset for your Super Smash Bros. Ultimate playing.

3

Lucario

Building Energy for the Fight

Lucario is a powerful being who can deal out powerful fighting-type moves on the likes of Sora, Mario, and Link. He harnesses energy that can be unleashed into a ball, eliminating anyone in his path. His recovery is far better than Incineroar’s as he can zip from one place to another with his Up-B.

Additionally, when the aforementioned energy is gathered, he gains an effect on his fists, creating additional damage towards his rivals. Lucario can be eliminated fairly quickly, however, in comparison to bigger foes like Ganondorf or Bowser. Luminosity ranks Lucario as a C+ character.

2

Pokemon Trainer

Three Different Options

This Pokemon character is unique as you can change between three different types of fighters: Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard. They’re the most well-rounded character from this series in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. If you want someone agile and can hit fast, Squirtle is your best option. If you want to layer on the damage even further with moves like Bullet Seed, which can devastate foes from above with a quick lashing of seeds. Lastly, Charizard is the brute of the group taking out whoeever gets in its way with its slow, yet brutal attacks. All three have their own weaknesses, but they all have relatively bad recoveries, making them not the best fighter on this list.

Charizard can dish out damage fast and can ruin your rival’s plans in a 1v1 match, for example. He can be hard to eliminate too when you have a higher percentage as opposed to Squirtle and Ivysaur. One of Charizard’s best attacks is also one of his most dangerous moves for your strategic survival: Flare Blitz. He rushes his opponent with a flamed charge, but he also takes damage from the move. It also takes a long time for the dragon to get back its own two feet. However, his Flamethrower move, can stack up the percentage points on the likes of Yoshi, Cloud, or whoeever is at his mercy. Charizard is also a fighter in Pokken Tournament.

The Pokemon Trainer originally appeared as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Nintendo Wii.

1

Pikachu

A Powerful Mouse

The best Super Smash Bros. Pokemon character has to be Pikachu. While it can get knocked out quickly like its little brother/sister Pichu, Pikachu can be devastating against the right opponent. Its combos midair make the electric mouse a menace. Their attacks are quick and fast, making it difficult to react against. Pikachu’s Thunder is a danger to all that’s around it. Volt Tackle can strike foes from far away, making Pikachu unpredictable in a Free-For-All match against three to seven fighters at a time. Pikachu’s taunts are some of the best in the game, especially the one in which it’s rolling around the ground; that’s so disrespectful.

Pikachu’s various tail whips and electric attacks make this Pokemon a problem to deal with for any fighter. Luminosity says Pikachu is an S- character on its tier list. It’s at the same level as Yoshi and Joker, in the eyes of that eSports group. Pikachu even has its own GameCube controller for fights in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and other games that are applicable.
