These are the Best Smash Moves in Smash Bros. Series

You can’t have Super Smash Bros. without the ‘Smash’. Since the OG Super Smash Bros., players have been slamming the A button and control stick to send their opponents flying after enough damage has been dealt.

10 Best Super Smash Bros. Characters
Who knew that we’d see Sora, Cloud, and Sephiroth fighting the likes of Fox, Mario, and Link in Super Smash Bros. while playing Melee back in the day?
Over the six games released during its lifetime so far (5 if not including ports), some smash moves have been so good they will never be forgotten or have changed the competitive meta forever. Below are the ten best smash moves of all time based on utility, competitive use, and personality.
10
Fire Glove — Mario, Super Smash Bros. Melee
Charge It up for the First Time
That first time booting up Super Smash Bros. Melee, it feels impossible that such a great game could have an even better sequel. The controls are perfect, and the addition of charging up smash moves for more power and to time them well was such an amazing feature that it changed the game forever.

Something about Mario’s side smash was so perfect for showing this new idea, communicating a fireball space where your opponent needed to be spaced for a satisfying, relatively quick, and powerful finishing move. Mario definitely got the prince treatment in that game for his full moveset, but this list must pay homage to the move that added such a great change.
9
Gigant Press — King K. Rool, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
For the Lizard Who Has It All
While the tyrant doesn’t enjoy a high placement competitively, his moveset seems as cheap and unfair as his personality, the crowning jewel of which is his planet-sized down smash. It changes his hitbox like a dodge, deals significant damage to shields, his innate belly armor makes it hard to counter, and did anyone mention how big the hitbox is?
K. Rool’s moveset is full of personality and many unique moves, but his down smash certainly has created a reputation for all those using it or crushed by it.
8
Forward Smash — Captain Falcon, Super Smash Bros.
Shotgun-like Roundhouse Kick
Captain Falcon does his best Chuck Norris impression in the first Smash Bros. with this super strong roundhouse kick that leaves opponents burning internally and externally. While later movesets would replace this with an elbow move with less knockback, the feeling landing that roundhouse kick in the first game rivaled the legendary catharsis of landing a game-ending Falcon Punch.
This speed demon needed to be nerfed, so taking this amazing kick out was a fair move, but it is very well remembered by fans of the original game.
A Broken Part of a Broken Character
Meta Knight in Brawl is just broken, like all over. The character competitively was in a god-tier so high above the rest he was banned from a lot of tournaments. But one of the strongest things this character had to terminate enemies was his down smash.
After beating them down with all his other moves, how about a great kill-confirm that sweeps both sides of the character and comes out super fast. Meta nighty-night players who get caught in this down smash.
6
Razor Wing — Sheik, Super Smash Bros. Melee
The Coolest Way to Lose
Sheik is a menace in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Incredibly fast, with tons of combos, you might think the creators would balance that by making sure it was hard to kill confirm. But nope, they gave Sheik an epic-looking smash that paired perfectly with the damage she could rack up super quick.
Even more insulting, the move looks like she just waves her arms like “done,” as if she doesn’t need to actually hit you after the pwning you just received.
5
Gusto Slash — Wolf, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Sweeping Claws to Bring Wolf to the Top
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has done a pretty decent job balancing it’s cast of fighters to make them all have some chance. Wolf has enjoyed a pretty high tier ranking from most players, and his down smash certainly helps keep the evil pilot high on the list.
In a game full of powerful smashes, Wolf’s down smash has power, range, low ending lag, and great edge-guarding ability with the hitboxes it creates. Even if you miss, you still hit with this move.
4
Mortar — Snake, Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Keep ‘Em Guessing Snake
This smash moves’ utility is immediately apparent. It hits opponents close, it hits opponents approaching from the air hard, it can be used to lob a mortar over the edge to defend it, and the trajectory of the explosive is controlled by how long the player charges it, making it great for mind-gaming opponents and zoning them out.
With Snake, the best players must think multiple steps ahead, but this powerful tool makes some of that chess game a little easier with a handy tool for aerial assaults. Used in combination with snake’s famous up-tilt kick, and all opponents fear approaching the super solsier from the sky.
3
Megaton Hammer — King Dedede, Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The Smashiest of All Smashes
Drop the hammer on opponents, regardless if they shield or not, with Dedede’s slow but very satisfying side smash. While never being a competitive powerhouse, the king’s side smash has always been feared, as it is even more powerful than it looks, stripping away shields, and KOing lighter characters who were just born on the stage.
Cocky opponents who have dealt a lot of damage to Dedede may leave themselves open for one well-placed hammer, and a huge change in momentum for the match.
2
Tornado Kick — Ganondorf, Super Smash Bros. Melee
Make Master Hand a Joke
Whoever was running the numbers on this smash move must have taken the day off, because the average smash attack dealt 17% damage while Ganondorf’s Tornado Kick deals 39% if both feet connect. This move was used to blitz bosses, destroy the sandbag challenge, and put opponents into kill damage percents before they realized how bad things had gotten.
Ganondorfs down smash in the game was also brutal, but for the utility combined with kill confirm power of his up smash, Tornado Kick takes the top spot for his smash moveset and possibly the most broken smash attack to be programmed into the series.
1
Dragon Killer — Marth, Super Smash Bros. Melee
The Original Tipper
Marth’s forward smash is one of the most famous in the franchise, receiving nerfs since Melee but still making a mark in history for its strength, and its introduction of ‘tipper’ smash attacks and moves. Marth was a powerhouse character in Melee, among the best the game had to offer, in no small part to how far-reaching, fast, and powerful this kill confirm move was.
In the games since, Marth has remained a powerful character, and other Fire Emblem characters have received similar side smash moves since Marth’s became such a well-known menace within the Smash community.
