These are the Things We Want to See in Persona 4 Remake

Atlus has a track record among their fans for constantly rereleasing and expanding their various titles, forever keeping them in the public eye. Recently this trend has expanded to remakes with the release of Persona 3 Reload which took the world by storm and introduced an entire new generation of fans to this PlayStation 2 classic.

Best Persona Battle Themes, Ranked
“Last Surprise” and “Mass Destruction” are two of the best Persona battle themes, no doubt.
Ever since the great sales of Persona 3 Reload, fans have had one question on their mind: when’s Persona 4? While all signs point to a Persona 4 remake being on the horizon, one has yet to be confirmed. Despite that, there are plenty of wanted changes and features that fans have been speculating about. Below is a list of just some changes that the Persona fanbase is expecting in a Persona 4 Remake.
8
Margaret Hang Out Events
The Overlooked Attendant
One of the most memorable aspects of the Persona franchise is the Twin Peaks’-inspired Velvet Room and the residents who seemingly live within it. Each game from Persona 3 onward has introduced a new attendant of Igor’s for the player to interact with in various ways. In Persona 3 FES and Persona 5 Royal, the player could even take the Velvet Room attendant to various parts of the city to hang out with them.
This has left Persona 4 a strange outlier in the series as its velvet room attendant, Margaret, is the only one not to receive this privilege in either version of the game. Perhaps a Persona 4 Remake would be the perfect opportunity to correct this and finally take Margaret out of that limo so she can learn the wonders of convenience store steaks and scooters.

Fully voice-acted Social Links
Add Life into the Game
While each Persona game with Social Links has always had the final rank up of them be fully voiced, most of them are completely invoiced until that final scene where you become best friends with the character you’re interacting with. This all changed however with the release of Persona 3 Reload, which had full voice acting for every Social Link.
This trend later continued in Atlus’ next game, Metaphor ReFantazio, which had voice acting for all of its Social Links. So if a Persona 4 remake were to be announced, it can be expected that fans would be expecting full voice acting for scenes like when Kou Ichigo monologues about loving basketballs.

New Outfits for the Investigation Team
A Fashion Statement
One of the coolest aspects of Persona 3’s remake, Persona 3 Reload, was how partway through the game SEES would gain new outfits exclusive to this new version of the game. These outfits were almost instantly a hit with fans and have dominated almost all current fan work of the Persona 3 cast. So why not recreate that magic in a Persona 4 remake?

The Phantom Thieves are all delightful in their own way, but which if these Persona 5 characters are the best?
While it may be harder to justify new outfits for the Persona 4 team from a story perspective as they aren’t a group with funding like SEES, it could be interesting to see new looks for this iconic JRPG party. Especially if the game keeps the same amount of additional costumes that the player could unlock in Persona 4 Golden.

Non-Randomly Generated Dungeons
A More Rounded-Out Experience
The Persona franchise and how it structures its dungeons can be separated into multiple eras, with the most well-known being the randomly generated dungeons of Persona 3/4 and the Palaces of Persona 5. While the randomly generated floors of Tartarus in Persona 3 fit perfectly with that game’s themes and enhanced the experience, Persona 4’s dungeons are much more debated.

Every Mainline Persona Game, Ranked
The Persona series is a beloved staple in the JRPG genre, and here we rank the main games from worst to best.
As a hypothetical remake would be the third version of Persona 4 to be released to the world, why not experiment with the dungeons and see what a non-randomized Persona 4 would look like, either giving each dungeon a unique design with gimmicks like the Palaces in Persona 5 or making each floor set in stone like the Marie dungeon from Persona 4 Golden. Either way, it could be an interesting experiment to see how OG Persona 4 fans react to a new style of dungeon.
I personally like the randomly generated dungeons of Persona 4 but they’re highly debated.
4
Rebalanced difficulty
Make It Harder
On the topic of the game’s dungeons and the activities that players must perform in them, one would hope that a Persona 4 Remake would have rebalanced difficulty. While the original release of Persona 4 was quite fair with the occasional difficulty spikes in dungeons such as the sauna, Persona 4 Golden made very few adjustments to the dungeons and enemies to accommodate for new gameplay mechanics. This resulted in the game becoming incredibly easy mid-way through. Perhaps a remake would be a perfect opportunity to fix this mistake?
Sadly, out of everything on this entire list, this seems to be the least likely change to occur in a Persona 4 Remake. Ever since the release of Persona 5 in 2016 the franchise has been skewing toward easier and easier combat aimed at a more casual JRPG audience. As such, It is very likely that a Persona 4 Remake would be even easier than Persona 4 Golden currently is.

Theurgies
A Brilliant Mechanic
Persona 3 Reload introduced a new mechanic to Persona’s battle system: the Theurgy mechanic. This mechanic was essentially a super attack gauge that would charge up as characters participated in combat. Each character obtained two over the course of the game, with their animations and effects almost perfectly reflecting the personality of the character they belonged to.

Among the many Personas in Persona 4 Golden, these 8 are so overpowered that they’re almost a guaranteed win condition.
Theurgies were a fantastic addition to Reload (or would have been if not for the afforementioned balancing issues), so why not add them to a Persona 4 remake? The game already had a type of super attack system where certain party members would perform team attacks, so why not expand this into a new version of the Theurgy system?
2
The Shift System
Pass the Baton
One of the coolest gameplay mechanics introduced in Persona 5 was the Baton Pass mechanic, where after hitting an enemy’s weakness the player could pass their current character’s turn to another party member in order to chain weaknesses and defeat a wave of enemies within a single turn. While this mechanic had its issues, such as giving characters an unnecessary damage buff, it was undeniably fun to use.
Persona 3 Reload would improve upon the Baton Pass mechanic by removing the buffs the mechanic would give and renaming it to Shift. With all the fun of the prior version of the mechanic and the none of the downsides, it would be madness to not have this mechanic reappear in a potential Persona 4 remake.

Aika Nakamura Social Link
A Fan Favorite Request
When Persona 4 received its critically acclaimed anime adaptation, it made the bold decision to introduce a new character in the form of Aika Nakamura, the daughter of the owner of the Aiya Restaurant. This character didn’t play a major role in the anime, but she provided several comedic moments and quickly became a favorite among fans.
When Persona 4 received its expanded Golden port, Aika was sadly nowhere to be seen but was mentioned in some dialogue. This trend of Aika being mentioned but never appearing continued into the various Persona spinoff games.
