Troubadour Side Quest Guide in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Quick Links
While most of the side quests in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are fairly straightforward, taking you down the path of fetch quests and monster slaying, there are a handful that challenge the mind and spirit. The Troubadour is one of them, as it offers a different little mini-game than we’re used to, although it utilizes the mechanics in the battle we’ve become so used to.

What is the Troubadour Quest?
The Troubadour Quest is one of the more unique quests in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as it’s not just another fetch quest. While we’ve become used to just finding items in the world or killing a certain enemy to finish a quest, The Troubadour is more of a mini-game than anything else.
Upon entering the Stone Quarry, you will notice a lone Nevron in the small area, with various Expeditioner bodies spread around. Listening to the journal behind him, you will give you a little more context of what happened, but talking to the Troubadour himself will reveal that all he ever wanted to do was to play with them, but he ended up killing them. Fortunately, now he has you to play with, and it’s a matter of life and death.
The Troubadour Dance
The goal of this mini-game is to match the rhythm with the orb colors. Depending on what color pops up, you will either have to parry the attack or let it hit you. Even failing one of these Tricky Shots will restart the challenge.
Color |
What to Do |
---|---|
Red |
The Red / Orange balls are what need to be parried. If you miss even one, you will lose the trial and have to start all over again. |
Green |
The Green orb has to be soaked as it will heal your party member for a small amount of HP. If parried, you will have to start over. |
For parrying timing, you will see the orb go into the sky and stop for half a second. The moment it starts to move from where it stayed still, you should be able to parry it. The timing isn’t too bad and fairly forgiving because, as soon as it hits the top left of the screen, you should be able to identify which color it is, and immediately identifying it, it will generally be the time to parry.
There are exactly three trials that need to be overcome, each of which is completely random in the order of what color comes out. The first trial has 4 attacks that need to be soaked or parried, the second has 8, and the final trial is 12 Tricky Shots.
