An unexpected leak suggests that Sony is expanding its current PlayStation multiplatform strategy, upsetting a portion of its fanbase. The leak we speak of is an official job advertisement through which Sony is specifically seeking a candidate to help put its games on rival platforms.

The job in question is for the role of Senior Director, Multiplatform & Account Management. What sticks out in the description is Sony mentioning first-party PlayStation Studios titles going multiplatform beyond PC.

“You will play a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile,” the ad reads.

This is going down as well as you’d expect. While Xbox fans are understandably happy, social media and gaming forums are chock-full of negative comments from the PlayStation community.

Players argue that going multiplatform made Xbox hardware sales worse than they’ve ever been, with Microsoft’s gaming division suffering from its executive decisions. They reckon that there will be little incentive to buy PlayStation consoles should first-party games land on other platforms.

Some industry folks have also weighed in on the matter, arguing that console exclusives make little financial sense as times have changed, and they are on their way out.
