Up To 96 Cores, 5.4 GHz Clocks, 384 MB L3 In DIY & Workstation Flavors

AMD has unleashed its next HEDT & Workstation platform, the Zen 5-based Ryzen Threadripper 9000 CPU series, with up to 96 cores.
AMD Brings Out The Big Guns At Computex With Zen 5-Based Ryzen Threadripper 9000 CPUs, Up To 96 Cores, 128 PCIe 5.0 Lanes, Available In July
So today, AMD is finally giving us the latest update for its Ryzen Threadripper & Threadripper Pro platforms with the new Ryzen Threadripper 9000 CPU family. Equipped with the Zen 5 core architecture, these chips bring faster performance that goes in line with the growing demands from the AI segment.

Just like the previous lineups, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPU family is segmented into PRO and Non-PRO families. The PRO line is more tuned towards high-end workstations while the non-PRO CPUs serve standard workstations, DIY platforms and HEDT segments.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000:
Starting with the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series, there are a total of six SKUs: 9995WX with 96 cores, 9985WX with 64 cores, 9975WX with 32 cores, 9965WX with 24 cores, 9955WX with 16 cores and 9945WX with 12 cores. The flagship features a 96-core and 192-thread configuration, making it the ultimate CPU option in the family.

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX CPU features a boost clock speed of up to 5.45 GHz (2.5 GHz base clock), 384 MB of L3 cache, 128 PCIe Gen5 lanes and a 350W TDP. The PRO CPUs are going to support 8-channel DDR5-6400 memory in ECC configs.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 CPUs:
Moving over to the standard Ryzen Threadripper 9000 CPUs, AMD is offering three SKUs: 9980X with 64 cores, 9970X with 32 cores, and 9960X with 24 cores. The top model comes with 64 cores and 128 threads, plus it features the same clock speeds as the 64-core PRO SKU, at 3.2 GHz base and 5.4 GHz boost. The CPU packs 256 MB of L3 cache and gets 4-channel DDR5-6400 memory support. All CPUs once again feature a TDP of 350W.

For all AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 CPUs, there’s also enhanced AVX-512 instruction support with a full 512-bit data path.

Let’s talk about the chip layouts for the Threadripper 9000 series. In the official renders, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 PRO CPUs come equipped with 12 CCDs and a singular IO die in the middle. This is still a much smaller package than the Turin CPUs that feature 16 “Zen 5” CCDs for a total of 128 cores and 256 threads, but it’s still an impressive core count and with Zen 5, you can expect much faster performance than the previous gen.

The package for the Non-Pro series is even more interesting, with 8 CCDs in total along with a single IO die. It’s not the number of CCDs that’s interesting, but it’s the arrangement as you can see in the render: The fourth CCD is placed next to the center CCD. It’s something that most users will never notice but kind of unique of how the chip layout is underneath the IHS.
Both the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 PRO and Threadripper 9000 CPUs will be available starting in July. There are no pricing details shared at the moment, but both lineups will have boxed variants.
