Verizon Customers Say Loyalty Discounts Were Secretly Pulled

The big telecommunication service providers in the U.S. have seen intense competition in recent years, with each carrier trying its best to win the race as the leader in the category. To remain competitive and sustain its position, many of the telecom companies engage in sales practices that are considered shady and have been criticized for a lack of transparency. Verizon has earned a reputation for using loyalty discounts to lure customers in and stop them from making a switch, but the discounts claimed are often not there, leading to confusion and an air of mistrust.

Customer claims that Verizon is luring in with discounts, and when the deal is done, the offer is taken away without any warning

Verizon is said to be testing its customers’ patience by offering enticing discounts to lock users in, and after the mission is achieved, it pulls out the discount, leading to many of them frustrated enough to not even share about the ill experience. Many users have taken out their disappointment on Reddit, with one user sharing about his experience of being offered a $20 per-line discount when they were about to leave the carrier, making them stay because the deal seemed enticing enough. Not only was the user convinced not to switch, but also convinced to add another line and get a new phone on a three-year term.

However, what seemed like a deal too good to be true turned out to be exactly the same. As soon as the contract was signed and all the necessary requirements were met, Verizon is said to have taken the discount away, making the user pay more than expected. The customer would have left the carrier had it not been for the discount, and pulling it away made the user feel stuck with the bill without any way out.

Verizon offers discounts that start at $10 and can go up to $40 per line, usually to make them stay and even expand on their existing plans. Usually, the discounts are valid for 12 months, so the user is left in ambiguity regarding whether the period is over or the discount is being taken away randomly without giving the user a heads up. Due to the lack of transparency, customers feel they are trapped by a promise that keeps them locked in.

There could be many possible reasons for Verizon’s sudden removal of the discount, such as some changes made to the account, making them no longer eligible for the discount, or it could simply be an error. Regardless of the reason the carrier has for the decision, they do owe the customers a clear explanation for their move if they do not want to lose old and new customers.
