Owlcat Games, the studio behind the brilliant Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader and upcoming Dark Heresy video games, has officially supported the ongoing Stop Killing Games initiative.

Stop Killing Games, an initiative which is set to be officially discussed by the EU, aims to stop games from becoming completely unplayable once a developer decides to turn off its servers.

If successful, this ongoing call would force developers to either allow games to be played offline after the servers are turned off, or allow means for players to host their own servers after official support ends (like we used to be able to do).

In a statement to fans, Owlcat Games announced its official support for the ongoing initiative. Talking to fans on Reddit, the Warhammer 40K RPG devs urged fans in the European Union to give their names towards the project.

“Owlcat Games is committed to delivering a great experience — no matter how long it’s been since a game’s release,” the studio told its followers. “We believe every player deserves lasting access to the games they’ve paid for. Take your time and learn more about the Stop Killing Games initiative and share your thoughts.”

The developer’s statement has immediately been met with an outcry of support from fans.

“First time I’ve seen a studio come out in support of the initiative, having been paying super close attention though,” one fan said. “Just another awesome reason to add to the list of why Owlcat f**king rocks.”

“And here I thought I couldn’t like this studio more,” another fan said. “Thank you for the endorsement!”

Alongside additional DLC for Rogue Trader and the upcoming Dark Heresy, Owlcat Games is also working on a game outside of the Warhammer 40K universe. The studio’s biggest release yet, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a huge Mass Effect-like RPG based on the epic sci-fi series.
