What the Hell Has Happened to Call of Duty?

Fortnite’s vibrant art style works lends itself well to the pop culture blender Epic Games has created. Call of Duty’s grey, hyper-realistic art style does not.
That’s why it’s so weird seeing Beavis & Butt-Head sprinting around with AK-47s in this bizarre new Premium Event Pass trailer for Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
You’ll be able to earn the cartoon characters, along with Coach Buzzcut and Todd Ianuzzi, by working your way through the themed Battle Pass.
Military versions of the main characters, complete with night-vision goggles and bullet-proof vests, will also be available as standalone microtransactions from 5th July.
Look, we’re not against a spot of silly fun, and we appreciate Call of Duty went off the deep-end a long time ago – but this just doesn’t work in the franchise’s tried-and-trusted art style.
And don’t just take our word for it, the reaction online has been brutal.
“This game doesn’t disappoint when it comes to disappointments,” one fan wrote on YouTube.
“You might as well just add Twilight Sparkle and Hello Kitty to the game at this point, because Call of Duty isn’t even a war game anymore, it’s just No Build Fortnite with more realistic graphics,” another added.
