ZOTAC GAMING ZONE Handheld getting a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 prototype with a Manjaro Linux-based OS

Hardware vendor ZOTAC have announced they’re working on a new ZOTAC GAMING ZONE Handheld, with a prototype that will be shown off at COMPUTEX 2025 running Linux. The event takes place May 20-23 May, and so hopefully they will be giving out plenty of details then.

Their press announcement was short on any real details simply noting:

The ZOTAC GAMING ZONE Handheld returns with an updated prototype variant, powered by the AMD Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370 APU, and running an all-new Manjaro Linux-based OS specifically designed for Handheld PCs.

Interesting to note they’re going with Manjaro Linux, or at least some variant of it, presumably because Valve have still yet to actually release that public SteamOS 3 version they announced previously. Valve are at least making steps towards this, with their newly announced SteamOS game compatibility rating system. Or, perhaps ZOTAC simply want a bit more control and don’t want to use SteamOS directly. That is the benefit of Linux after all, vendors can customize it exactly how they want, and still get great game compatibility on Steam with Valve’s Proton.

Since it’s only a prototype, it doesn’t mean it will actually see a release. And could end up just shipping with Windows instead like we’ve seen before like with the AYANEO NEXT LITE.
